Military Shotgun

Well even guys that have been doing this along time get stumped. What are your thoughts on this one?

Possibly an early industry guard weapon? (12 gauge)

Maybe from the WWI era?

I've seen Remington Model 11's and Stevens Model 720's (semi-autos) that were ordnance-marked, but those were from the WWII era and were used to train the bomber machine-gunners on how to engage enemy fighters in defense.

I like neat old stuff like that.

Google on "Iver Johnson shotgun ordnance marked" or "Iver Johnson military".... something like that, and see what turns up.

Very Happy

The only single shot shotgun I've seen with ordinance markings had been used as a line gun. There was a can that mounted to the bottom of the barrel which contained a thin rope tied to a unit that slipped over the end of the barrel. The end unit was fired to docking ships and the small rope was tied to a larger rope used to secure the vessel.

The Army used Marlin and Winchester lever guns for soldiers guarding lumber mills in the Pacific Northwest of the U.S. maybe the shotgun is from something like that, were they didn't need a battle rifle, just something to tote around?

Interesting to say the least, I'm still betting that it was a guard weapon for a civilian or military plant. I contacted Guns International for info sent them the pic, no info but they were willing to buy it?

I doubt it is worth a fortune, however it is still very unusual.

There was a blanket procurement for arms in WWII. It probably spent it's days guarding a railroad bridge.

Made by Iver Johnson from 1905 to 1959. Several different gauges plus some rifle models. Value in poor condition about $75 but could bring more with the US markings.
