Thinking of getting a moon clip job done on my SP-101
I was looking over at Clark Custom Guns' website and saw that they offer a moon clip conversion for many revolvers.
I've got a Ruger SP-101 that's one of my favorite handguns and I thought I'd like the versatility of being able to shoot 9mm in it as well as .38 and .357.
Just figured I'd post my idea here to see what pros and cons (mostly cons) there might be to this idea.
Anyone?

My brother has used the folks at Moonclips.com for 2 of his guns. He can't say enough great things about them and their service. Top notch folks. I'm wanting to get a couple of my revos done, but I can't decide which ones.

I've never heard anything bad about Clark Custom....I'd expect He is swamped like the other custom folks and the wait time might be substantial...who knows
I know Cliff loves his revo man here in Jackson, but ever time I've tried to call it was "I can't get to it for 9 months kinda story" so I quit trying.
The smith's name escapes me...He's on the sticky list of gunsmiths...you might be more successful than I was at getting some work done. You know if Cliff uses him He's good.
Someone else is likely to come along and fill in some details

Thanks, he replied to my email today. Said it was 2-3 days shop time. SP101 is kind of heavy, thinking about my model 66 4" which is probably lighter but less concealable. Kind of looking it for a pistol I can scavenge (steal is an ugly word) if I have to, can shoot 38, 357 and 9mm and those are some of the popular rounds you can find.

If you do the moonclip conversion will this allow you to shoot 9mm in a 38 spl revolver?

Good question Rig. He said it would work on a 357 but if the cylinder of a 38 is shorter, countersinking might make it too short for smaller 38's. Don't think it'll be a problem but I would ask before I had it done. Don't know how much room there is between the overall length of the cylinder and the length of a 38 special round. I will measure a small 38 pistol cylinder and the length of the round.
And I will call the guy 'Neck mentioned to see his prices also. 'Neck's had a lot of custom work done so anyone he recommended I would put on my list of people to check with. Plus I like to work with local guys, keep my money around here.

I'd like to do this too with either my smith or ruger. I like the concept of moon clips

My brother gave me this advise about moon clip thickness and which brass is best to use.
There is two different thicknesses of moon clips. .022, and .025. The .022 can be used on any brass but works best with Winchester. If you go with Remington, Federal, and I think Starline you want .025. This combo is tight so it don’t wiggle much. If you use Rem, Fed, and Starline with the .022 the brass really shakes and wiggles too much. I prefer the thicker clips and the right brass for that thickness.

I tried shooting with moon clips for the first time today. I found out they don't work with CCI Blazer aluminum.
