Diamondback DB9

Post by profiler999 on Wed Nov 23, 2011 12:21 pm

One followed me home from Academy today. Just sort of jumped in the truck and wiggled into my pocket. Feels really good and light. I have no idea if it works, has issues or what not......I'll break it in over the weekend.

a friend of mine just got one too. i'm trying to get with him one afternoon to try it out. I've already got their 380acp and really liked the looks of the 9mm. I just wonder if its too small as im also looking at the kahr 9mm CM which is still pretty small but much beefier.

I've been trying to find one at our Academy for months. Still don't think they have any. I want to know how it shoots and how reliable it seems, too. Neat little guns, but I'll bet it's a snappy little sucker. That's OK, though, because if you ever have to pull it out, you won't notice. As far as I can tell, it's the most pocketable 9mm available. It's about the same size as the DB380 or LCP for those that don't know what that is. I'd love to have one to play with, even if I didn't wind up keeping it.Smile The price Academy quoted me was nice, too.

I have looked at the db9 online a couple times. I look forward to your review.

I would like to know how it performs for you. I was trying to decide between the db9 and a kahr cm9. I did read that you are supposed to use premium ammo in the db9 it will not cycle cheap ammo

Only had time to shoot about 30 rounds of the yellow box Remington. Had several FTF, but in defense of the DB9, I have not cleaned or lubed it.

I'll try to work the kinks out this weekend.

on a side note, it's very concealable and extremely accurate.

Firing pin channel may need cleaning out. I know the KelTeks do and I think these are ex-KelTek people, so it may be full of grease. I, too, have read that those things need the premium ammo to cycle well. Not sure exactly what that means, since it would seem that any factory loads should suffice, but I have heard they can be a little picky. Shouldn't have anything to do with FTFs, though. They are nice looking little guns.Smile Hope yours smooths out for you. I think they do require around 250 rounds for breakin.

Hopefully it is the factory grease. I would like one as long as they run well.

I'm curious to see the final range report as well. I am also waiting to see if they are going to offer the laser on the DB9. The 380 felt great. It really looks like a mini Glock to me. Even breaks down like the Glock.

By ftf I assume you mean failures to feed and not failures to fire. Thats why they say it needs the premium ammo. Most of the full metal jacket ball ammo is not strong enough to make the gun function correctly.

I've been well-pleased with mine. A Hougue slip-over grip (I think it was the Handall Jr.) is well worth the $10-15. It's a fight to get it on, and I had to trim a little off the bottom, but it sure keeps the lil bugger from jumping out of your hand so bad.

That's what I read, too. Sorry, I got fail to fire mixed up with fail to feed. Still wouldn't hurt to clean out the firing pin channel, but that should only correct light strikes and not failures to feed. I suspect these little guns might respond well to a little fluff and buff like the PF9s do. Doing a little light polishing seemed to smooth out the PF9 I had quite a bit. I didn't get carried away, but lightly polished the feed ramp and chamber. Sometimes the machining on these cheap little pocket guns isn't the best in the world. You might find a few small burrs in that area that could use a little attention. Another thing to check, if the ammo isn't the culprit, is the mag and mag lips. They outsource those and sometimes the QC is a little lacking. I've seen them that would actually squeeze and hold the cartridge too tight for it to feed as smoothly as it should. A slight reshaping would usually straighten them right out. Then again, the gun may not need anything more than a good cleaning and finishing the break in. Break in on these little guns is critical. KelTek used to say in their manual to not call them for service until you've cycled 250 rounds through them and I've read reports that some really didn't start performing right until they were well into that 5th box. I guess you have to beat that bad machining into place and they'd probably say they can't machine them any better for the price they charge. They're cute little guns, but they're definitely no match for the Sigs you're used to. Difference is daylight and dark, but that's the reason these are $350 and the little Sigs are $699. Hopefully, all yours needs is a little shooting with some good ammo.

I agree a little fluff and buff would probably do it some good. I have been lucky on my keltecs I have never had to do it. Its probably because I have run a lot of round through mine.
