New Marlin

Post by Eaglestroker on Wed 23 Nov 2011 - 21:20

Can't wait to shoot it! Going to make a project out of this 45-70 1895. Thanks again Michael.

Better pictures after sun up!

Don't look like it needs much work. That's a good looking rifle you got there. Love that furniture with the checkering. That's a top of the line Marlin, as fine as I've seen.

I want to make a modified lever for it, add a receiver sight, and possibly cut a forward dovetail for a full length magazine tube. Nothing crazy. The sight will be first.

She's been used but not abused. Well taken care of rifle.

I have an older 1895 with straight grip and LOVE IT.... Nothing like shucking out those BIG OLE 45-70 cases..... Smile

I mainly shoot medium-load lead bullets in mine. Easy on the shoulder.....

Are you going to do a tang sight or Williams like receiver sight? My other 45-70 is a Buffalo Classic with tang sights (Poor Man's Sharps).

I don't really care for newer tang sights. Going to try a Skinner express sight on it, like the way they look. Probably delete the safety with a saddle ring replacement as well.

I like straight stock Winchesters, my grandads marlin has a crescent stock and is brutal with 45-70. I wouldn't mind having an older ported model down the road.

May need to get some boolits from you SGF.

Nice I'd like to get one have it cut down to 16" and ported and add a X-rail with EOtech.

Seen em Bubba, too rich for my blood! Only part I'll have to outsource is having the new dovetail cut. It will look similar to this but with no scope:

Pretty Rifle

If'n I was into the lever's I'd have to think hard on that Grizzley Custom....nice stuff...but a tad too rich

It would be a waste on that dirty/dirty....Wouldn't it ? Bubbat IDK

Get em too nice then you don't wanna use em for what they was intended....draggin through da woods..

Love the big bores. I prefer the 44 calibers personally but that is one purty rifle. Grizzly makes some great stuff but he is high. His sights are big. He is offering a poor boy package now tho and that helps. He uses levergun leather but I'd bet you got that part covered. Very Happy

I think my Outfitter would benefit from a full length mag tube. Smile

The only gun I own that doesn't get used is my original Colt Navy. And I have shot it Smile

I'm pretty handy with a wrench. I can handle most of it but am not comfortable enough to do a cut on the barrel. Just need to find someone that doesn't have a 6 month wait time for such a simple job.

I've seen the 'po boy package' over on MO Joe. If it weren't for the leather I'd take a good hard look at it but I just don't need or want it.

That's a good looking rifle too. I just like the way the full length tube looks and it should balance nicely. 7+1 rds of 45-70 would be fun too. Overkill is underrated.

Beautiful gun!!! drool My 1895 is an '82 model and doesn't have the checkering. I like the idea of the full length magazine tube. I think the full length tube looks better. One option I saw on another website was to cut off the projecting portion of the safety when it's in the fire position. The end was then reblued. That way it was flush on both sides when in the fire position.

I'd rather fit a checkered stock onto your '82, this is an '00 production. I think the tube looks better and 7 rds of 45-70 is a force to be reckoned with. Regarding the safety I honestly like saddle rings so it's not a big deal to me Smile

Thank you.

Any family get together at my grandparents means target practice of some sort. Knew you guys would get a chuckle out of our high class shooting bench. I'm impressed with what this rifle is capable of already group wise, can't wait to get an improved sight on it.
