Its Back! - Dixie Precision Custom 35 Whelen

Post by msredneck on Thu 24 Nov 2011 - 7:18

Well after a long sabatical....May of 2011....It's BACK!!!!

My Custom 35 Whelen is back in the hunt for the whack and stack.

She used to look like this:

After a major rutt roe with the gun stock at Birdsongs...we had to have a re-do

This blackout custom 35 Whelen started life a lowly Savage 110 30'06 I got from 3spop a couple years ago

Rifle Basix trigger set to 2 lbs

10 MOA bases I'm pretty sure...just stuck a Bushnell 4200 6-24x50 on her to go hunting

Inline muzzle break with a Kreiger Barrel

Obviously the finish is Birdsong's Black-T

Stockade Prairie Dog Tactical Stock....my previous one was hand painted...This one is a bit shiny but it will do....Its a long long story

All I can say is Dixie Precision made it right....

Last I shot her she was money in the bank...a whack and stack machine...Can't go sight her in today....its killin me...

Last I remember she was lights out at 100 with crappie Remington Core-Loks I used to break the barrel in....with very little recoil..not much more than my 7mm-08....Lot of that attributed to the heft...

I'm gonna get her set to shoot around 300 yards....Aint sure that's possible with a 225gr bullet in 35 Whelen....Gotta run the numbers

Might shoot Open Class with her next year no

Been rubbing on her all night...wife thinks I'm nutts thinking ...she'd be right

Thanks for a beautiful gun Alton...U da Man

Thanks...

I imagine it will flatten most anything that walks in North America...Moose, Elk etc 35 Whelen - One of my favorites...the poor man's 375 H&H

what I love about it is you can pour some lead 38 caliber bullets and load it way down if you want.

It's a very versatile cartridge..and you don't see it in Bolt action often...Not many really appreciate it

Good article here:

That Custom 35 Whelen looks G O O D ! ! !

I did notice the THICK recoil pad............... Smile

Might not be a good idea to shoot lead bullets with that inline muzzle break. They can fill up with lead QUICKLY...............

Kicks a lil harder than I remembered Razz

I like the stock a lot...its a pretty hefty gun....a shoot shack machine.

with a 35 Whelen...weight is your friend

Gotta get time to work up a load
