Kel-Tec PF9
Just bought a Kel-Tec PF9 9mm all black with a Desantis Nemesis pocket holster. Anybody picked up one of these. What did you think about the recoil?

I have the PT3 in 380 and a friend has the PF9. Both are light weight and it takes a little practice to learn the best way to hold them to make accurate follow up shts. The recoil isn't bad, it's just getting used to a small handgun.

The PF9 has a little more recoil than I have anticipated but at 25 ft I could keep a group good enough to do the job. I got it for everyday carry & it is going do what I need it to.

Re: Kel-Tec PF9
i had a pf9 and currentlly have a p11 and p3at. Love kel tecs. I personally do not think the p11 recoil is all that bad. i think the p11 and p3at have more felt recoil.
I also think the recoil from my snub nose 357 (ruger sp101)
it isnt mild by any standard but i honestly had no problem putting a couple of hundred rounds through it in a session.
It is a great gun. I sold it becausei perfer the p11 slightly and really did not need both. The grip on the pf9 feels better to me than the p11. i assume that is why the recoil seems more in the p11

I love my PF9. Get a Hogue Handall Jr sleeve for the PF9 and it will help a little. It makes it a easier and more comfortable grip.

I bought a nice pocket holster from StealthHolster.com for my PF9 and it makes it so much easier to carry around than IWB. It does have a little recoil, but it is not a gun I take to the range on a regular basis. I have an FNX 9 for that..Good suggestion on the Houge Grip Sleeve. I think I will check into that. All in all I think the PF9 is a great carry option for our warm weather climate..

Let me know how you like it. I was looking at an all tan (slide and frame) pf9 at the last gun show... I wish it didn't have the 50 buck mark up. Otherwise...I would have walked home with it.

I got a slip-on for my pf9 its made by bulter creek its thinner than the hogue. I like it better for pocket carry. I have seen them made from a bicycle inner tube also just cut and fit it to the length u want. My humblejbwonfire wrote:I will have to check into the Houge Grip Sleeve. Thanks![]()

Re: Kel-Tec PF9
Thanks everyone on the ideas. I really like it. This is my first Kel-Tec purchase and so far I really like it. I guess that I just wasn't thinking about the recoil that much and thats ok. It serves the purpose and the only reason I will probably shoot it more than some is because it is my everyday/everywhere carry now. Even though I doubt I would be doing a speed reload if I had to use it, I love how when you slam a mag in it the slide drops. Over all I think it was a good buy. Got it at Grenada Gold-n-Gun if anyone is interested.

Re: Kel-Tec PF9
This thread got me to thinking about the PF9 I used to have. Abusive as heck, but one of the most reliable guns I've ever owned. Sold it off, because it was so unpleasant at the range, but I've been thinking that was a terrible reason for selling it. It never was intended to be pleasant, just descreet, accurate, and effective, which it definately was. Been thinking about picking up another, since I have plenty of range guns now. Came across this one and really like the way it looks. Sure wish I knew how durable the Cerecote finish would be on both the slide and the frame, though. Sure looks good with the black accents and the price, at $297, ain't too bad, either.

I enjoy shooting my PF9. Even thought Corbon 115 +Ps were fun, although a handful, but went to standard pressure to practice with what I carry and for quicker follow ups.
I think the Blackhawk size 3 is the perfect pocket holster. But that's all personal preference.

I must have liked the one I had more than I thought at the time, because I ordered one in Desert Tan Cerecote this morning. Sure hope the finish holds up as well as they claim it will, because for some reason it called out to me. It'll certainly be the prettiest gun I own, considering the rest of them are that boring Glock black. My last PF9 was black under parked, as well. It sure was a nice shooting little gun. Hope this one is as good.

I shot mine again this weekend. That Hogue grip helps. I like it
feels like it has some power behind it! Mine isnt 100% with range ammo. I need to shoot it more, may be me or the gun just may need a little more wear to get going.

Thats the exact one I want! If you don't like it, let me know. I hear that the Cerakote is a bit more durable that Duracoat or Krylon. I held one of these at the last gun show and was fairly impressed with the coating!

Re: Kel-Tec PF9
I'll do it JKtruck150, however I bought this one with the intention of keeping it in mind. I liked the last one I had a lot, but was trying to use it for something it wasn't suited for, a range queen. I've learned a lot since then and plan to use this one for its intended purpose. I've already decided to never try and shoot more than 20 or so rounds during a range trip. That seemed to be where my flinching started before due to the abusive recoil. It was harsh to shoot, but never failed to perform well and I know that under pressure, I'd never even notice the recoil.
How much were they at the show? Reason I ask is the Gun Genie deal seemed pretty decent to me. I bought my last one new for $300 from an individual at a gun show, but that was way back when they were scarce. None of the dealers had any and I felt lucky to find the one I did. I shot 6 or 700 rounds through it and still got my $300 back out of it, although I did add a few extras to the package, like another mag and a Handall Jr grip sleeve, along with a cheapie pocket holster. Bud's lists the cheapest model, blued over black, for $280 shipped. I think they can be had for less than that, but the Gun Genie price on this was $296 and change out the door, shipped to your local FFL. That was only $20 more than their price on the cheapest model. I figured the Cerecote was worth that. My last one was parked, but it liked to break out in a little surface rust occasionally. I'm hoping this one will be less likely to do that.
Also been looking at a .22 conversion kit for $200 that I think I'm gonna pick up when my funds pick up. Someone here sold one recently with a PF9 and said he experienced some problems with his, but the company that makes them seems solid and I think I could be patient enough to let them work the bugs out, if I couldn't myself. Now, with a .22 kit, it probably would become a nice range gun and the nice thing about those kits are that you can get one in the same color Cerecote. I think that would be sorta neat for $500 total. Shoot a hundred or so rimfire rounds at the range and then finish up with 20 rounds of 9mm. That would certainly make the gun more useful to me.

The guy threw a price out of 325, then said I could get it for 300 plus tax. I have seen them for the 260 range, but not as often. Actually, finding the Cerakoted tan ones are fairly rare. I just have a thing for Tan pistols.

I've had one since February and have found it to be an excellent choice for CCW. Recently added an aftermarket aluminum trigger which fixed the flexibility found in the original trigger, and picked up a couple +1 mag extensions for more comfortable range times. I also carry mine with the belt clip, and have found that it rides and hides well.

Re: Kel-Tec PF9
The Gun Genie price of $296.89 was the full OTD price including sales tax and all FFL fees, so it beat his price by $25 or so. I've seen the PF9s that could be bought for $250 plus tax, but not the Tan models. They're fairly difficult to locate right now, but will probably be everywhere soon. Mine's been delivered, so I'm just waiting for a phone call letting me know they're ready for me.
Hope to be cleaning and tuning on it right after lunch and may try to hit the range tomorrow. I've got it and three other guns here I've yet to shoot. 'Bout time to get off my lazy butt and get out there.
