I've used a lot of Tula in .45acp. Never had a problem with either my Kimber or my High Standard. I have seen it hang up in a few other guns though(a Taurus pt1911 and a Springfield, also seen the 9mm hang up in a couple Berettas), but of the 500 or so I've shot I've never had a problem.

I've never had any problems with steel cased ammo, however check the casings for any scratch marks from the extractor. I'd also double check the extractor. As long as you don't see anything unusual on the casing or the extractor, you should be fine as far as it messing up you gun. It's not the most reliable ammo, but for the price, I shoot quite a bit of it.

As long as the steel cases are polymer coated, no problem. I would NOT shoot any steel case ammo in a rare (hard to find parts) gun.....

I will agree with SGF -- you should not have a problem ... but I would keep it out of those historical firearms ..

This is just my opinion, but it never ceases to amaze me that people spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars to purchase a firearm, yet want to get the cheapest ammo, magazines and holsters possible.

Steel cased ammo often has a lacquer coating that can gum up the chamber and cause pressures to spike unexpectedly. The ammo doesn't store well and can rust. Steel is harder than brass and can accelerate wear. And it's a pain for me to sort when I pick up all the brass left behind Wink

Winchester and Remington are easily available and cost little if nothing more. You can also check with commercial reloaders like precision delta for good ammo. And if cost is really a factor bite the proverbial bullet and invest in a reloading setup. Even if you just get a cheap single stage you can still roll your own for half the price, just a slower output.

Where are you getting Winchester and Remington for a little or nothing more than steel cased ammo? I would really like to know,I need to order some .223 and I have never seen either anywhere close to the price of steel cased ammo.

I assumed since this is in the handgun sub-forum we were talking handgun ammo and not .223. Regardless, I have run nothing but brass through my AR's after buying a case of wolf ammo and having an abundance of split necks. It's worth the higher price for my piece of mind.

Just looked at your avatar. Anyone putting AR parts (butt stock) on an AK can't be trusted far (JK). Never bought any steel cased ammo. I know a lot of people who have and their guns are still running. I'd buy some if there were a lot of difference on price but I haven't seen that.

It is. That's my baby. Coated in Birdsong's light gray and black-t. Well worth the wait and money.

I've used steel case ammo in 223 and 9mm with no problems. It can wear out an extractor but most extractors are cheap and easy to fix.

I've run some through my handguns and rifles without issue. I also have some in storage, but since I started reloading, pretty much stick with brass now.

Re: Steel case pistol ammo?

I haven't tried Wolf or Tula, but I did try a couple of boxes of Monarch a while back. Very problematic in every 9mm I owned at the time. It seemed the primers were too hard. The dimples were there, but several of them took 3 tries to get them to fire. Also, they left some of the paint residue in my guns that was difficult to clean. I decided that day that I could afford brass cased ammo from then on. Out of the 100 rounds I had, I think about 2/3rds failed to fire on the first try and that was frustrating. Wasn't worth the dollar a box I saved. However, I've seen many boxes of Tula shot at the range without the first hiccup, so there must be a difference. I might try some in a pinch.
