22 Revolver
Anybody got a suggestion for a 22lr and or 22lr/22mag revolver? I have been wanting one of late. I like the Taurus 992, and Ruger SP101 but haven't heard any pros and cons.

I have a Taurus 94 that I taught my kids with. Also got a Taurus Tracker, don't care for the 7 round cylinders but it's a good gun overall.
Academy had those Heritage (look kind of like a Ruger) for 99.99. Don't know for how long. Can't recommend them since I've never shot or even seen one but you can't beat that price if you want to get one on the cheap. I didn't know the 101 came in .22 but if its anything like my 357, it's a good gun. Ruger's right up there with the best IMHO.

I've seen the new Taurus revolver...22/.22mag interchangable swing out cylinder...9 shot. The one I looked at looked to be well fitted. Cant remember how much he was wanting for it. I like the Ruger single sixes myself.

I have a Ruger Single six but .22 mag ammo in a handgun is not very much more powerful than a High speed .22 LR. The powder in a .22 Mag ctg is made for rifle use and a lot of it burns outside the handgun barrel.

This pertains to what I learned about Colt's SAA 7/8's scale 22's, so research whatever brand you consider purchasing. They were sold either as 22 LR only or both with a 22 LR cylinder and a 22 magnum cylinder. I agree with Doug, a 22 mag in a pistol just makes more noise, there won't be any more power, but there's more! 22 magnums have a larger diameter than a 22LR so if you bought a pistol made for both, it got the 22mag diameter barrel, if 22LR, it was cut smaller.
Therefore if you have a pistol made for either mag or LR it will only shoot accurately with expensive noisy magnum rounds. Again, I'm not sure what Taurus or Ruger has going on, do your homework.

+1 on the Ruger Single Six. I have a blued finish and one stainless no problems with either of them. I've had the blued since I was 18. Like Mr. Doug said on the 22mag cylinder, so I shoot with the 22lr cylinder in them most of the time its cheaper to shoot 22lr ammo too.Doug Bowser wrote:I have a Ruger Single six but .22 mag ammo in a handgun is not very much more powerful than a High speed .22 LR. If you're at all interested in a good used one you can usually pick up a good used Hi-Standard Sentinel at the gun show for $150-250 in decent shape.
Keep an eye out for the J.C. Higgins .22 revolvers. They are the same as the Hi-Standard Sentinel, just marked J.C. Higgins because that was Sears' brand name. They generally sell for a little less than those marked Hi-Standard, but they're the same gun.

I have a ruger single six and love it. I really like the fact I can switch between Lr and WM. I got the gun coated in Black-T coating. Its my door gun so to speak. (Stays in my truck door) Can't beat those little guns.

Traded for a 617 stainless. Love it. Wish I could find a 10 round speedloader. Best .22 revolver I ever shot. Don't need a .22 mag, it'll shoot as well as any magnum with the right ammo.

I have a ruger single six with the interchangable cylinders. It has a 6.5" barrel. I got the trigger worked on. That thing is a straight shooter!

Have a ruger single six . It used to shoot Awsome . Now it shoots ungodly high . Don't know y it changed but it's a reliable gun with lr and mag cylinders. Just have to aim about 9 inches low . Great gun tho

Re: 22 Revolver
I have two S&W k22's. A pre-model 17 and a 17-2. They both shoot better than I do and are much easier to clean than a Ruger MKII.
I would buy another one if the price was right. I have a soft spot for older S&W's. Quality is worth waiting for..

I would love to find a Sentinel Brutus. My Dad has a one in snub nose. Love it but I have been trying to locate one for years.
