I would think a blanket statement on any caliber would be tough. So many factors for accuracy; manufacturer, bullet and load, fit of gun to hand...

A blanket statement on 'anything' is tough. There are numerous variables that can affect a situation. Majority of the time, when a blank statement is a made, it comes from a skewed mind and/or ignorance.

what is the price? I have a 35 and a 23 and love them both, but getting wolfe 9mm conversion for my 35 since i shoot production class. I also work in a hospital in Jackson and can tell you from first hand experince a 9mm will not get the job done unless your shot placement is superb and you use +P+ hp ammo. Seen 5 in the chest at 3am and the guy grabbing nurses asses by lunch time same day. I now exclusively carry 40 or 45. I have seen the 9 to many times be ineffective.

The guy is wanting 400 for it with 500 or so down the pipe. At the price ammo, think Ill just stick to 45 and 9.

That is a little steep for a used Glock 22 unless extra stuff comes with it. You can pick one up at the Gun shows for that.

G23 is my preferred carry as well....will shoot everything everytime...the 40s&w ballistics are great - IF that were really a self defense concern.... I doubt the "shootout" will be at any great distance...so then the close range terminal ballistics are what really matter....and the 40 is proven... in penetration and wound cavity.... as far as control.... my opinion is not gun specific or caliber specific..... practice practice practice..... especially with the one that will save you or a family member's life..... 2 cents

I agree with that and with that said let me retract my wording on my previous comment. It should have said..

In fact, In my experience, I'm more accurate with a .40 up to longer distances than the .45. Then again, I don't currently own a .45 so I haven't shot it near as much as 9mm or .40

I shouldn't of used the word 'ignorance' ... it should have been "lack of knowledge of the subject". Some may believe that 'ignorance' is a term of insult, which was not my intent. Please excuse me.

I have a Walther P99 in 40 that I bought back before the ban sunset when 10 rds of 40 was preferable to 10 rounds of 9mm. It very rarely gets taken out. I love the gun and don't mind the snappy recoil and high barrel axis, but I never buy 40 ammo. I shoot mostly 9 just because it's cheap and it punches holes in paper just fine. For defense 40 may be superior, but I'd use the guns I'm more familiar with and have practiced more with - like all my pistols in 9mm.

WELL... I guess I WILL start putting my 40 barrel back in when I'm through playing! Man thats crazy stuff you've seen in there I am always intrigued by your hospital stories.

Yea ... 9mm doesn't cut it in combat. That is why the navy seals went back to carrying the 45 acp. The philosophy 1 45 acp round or 3-5 9mm rounds. The 45 acp wins every time.

That is the reason the FBI went to 40 S&W and the Highway patrol went to 357 sig..

Think on it ... the military has made some classic FU's over the years. The M-16 was a toy when it came out in Nam compared to the AK. The stats were what? ... per kill - 10,000 rounds per infantry to 3 rounds per sniper. The movie 'Green Berets' was so wrong in so many ways.. a true 'green' wouldn't be caught carrying the plastic pop gun.

In many ways it still is... that is the reason the 5th developed the 6.8 SPC. When you look at SOF pics from over there now, many carry the AK.

What still pisses me off is that we had to earn the right to wear a beret of any color ... Black berets are for rangers... Green for Green berets ... Red for airborne ... blue for para-rescue ...etc. Today, they are issued at boot camp. bull What a insult to the past elite forces!!!

This should bring a argument on more than one front.

Me and captain talked about this the other day at the range. He is a true believer in shot placement and I'll give him that shot placement is first and foremost. It doesn't matter if you have a S&W 500 if you can't hit squat with it. I am a fan of the 45 and the 40 for defense purposes. If that is this posters goal I lean toward the 40 over 45 due to more capacity. I am purchasing a 9 conversion barrel to do ipsc with but carry gun for me will always be a 40(I should mention I have a mousegun a 32 keltec purchased the day they came out Cooper's rule applied). My thoughts are just mine I based them on what I've personally seen and what some of my LEO friends use due to their administrators studies. As captain said their are exceptional situations out there always, this guy that lived through that must have some work to do. I did see a 38 to the back of the head a few weeks ago. It richocet off his skull down his neck and into the left upper lobe of his lung. Survived with very little ill effects. Got to keep his lobe of his lung. It was an all lead bullet. They looking for you casters out there LOL. JK.

With all that said Check out slickguns.com there is a Glock 22 gen 3 rough texture like new with 2 15 round mags and night sites shipped to your FFL for 379.

I started with 9mm. I really like it.
But, I think all would agree that you carry the biggest caliber that you can conceal, control, and afford to shoot.
