S&W Model 586 with .38 +P

Post by addison1203 on Mon Nov 28, 2011 3:33 pm

I accidentally bought a 100 pack of .38 +P for a Smith and Wesson Model 36 that I have. I searched online and saw that it is generally recommended not to shoot +P out of these older revolvers.

So my question now is can I use this ammo with my .357 Magnum S&W Model 586 instead?

I have used regular .38 with this revolver before no problem but I can't seem to find info regarding the use of .38 +P.

Thanks

38 +P does not create as much pressure as the .357 so you should be fine.

You'll wear out before your 586 does!

I wouldn't shoot it in the 36 regularly but I loaded it in mine for self defense only. Practice with standard .38 loades and shoot the +p's in a must shoot situation.
Does anyone else shoot +p's in a standard 38? I carried it loaded with them and two speed loaders with the same.
