Best deal on bulk 9mm bullets???

Hey guys...
Going to start reloading 9mm, and need some opinions on what bullets to use.

Obviously looking for the least expensive option for a good bullet to shoot steel matches, and some USPSA minor SSTK.

I like jacketed, but dont have a problem with shooting led ( which I'm prob going to have to do to say inexpensive).
Not interested in casting my own at this point.

Side note: What weight bullet is most popular? And what press? Considering a Square Deal B.

I'm a big fan of moly coated bullets for pistol stuff. I'll personally recommend www.precisionbullets.com and www.blackbulletinternational.com. I've found the moly coated bullets to be an excellent alternative to jacketed since they smoke a LOT less than cast lead and aren't much more expensive than the cast stuff. If you prefer jacketed, www.precisiondelta.com is in Ruleville, MS. Another good option is www.montanagoldbullet.com. Both are pretty close in price.

As for bullet weight, a lot of guys are shooting 147 gr bullets because they can have a much softer perceived recoil than the lighter bullets at the same power factor. Bullets in the 124ish grain range are still very popular and they will cost a bit less than the heavier ones.

Presses: I'm a big fan of Dillon Precision stuff. When I first started reloading I started on a square deal and quickly moved up to the 550B. I think the 550B is a better deal based on its ability to load so many different calibers and the relatively low cost of caliber conversions. If you're only going to load one caliber, the square deal is fine but if there are two or more, I'd suggest the 550.

Make sure you order them by the case and not by the thousand. That's where you get the big price break.

Accuracy is going to be limited more by your gun than the bullets. But I've been very happy with them. They are as accurate for me as any other bullet I've tried.

I've been using the 147gr Precision Bullets in my M&P 9L and have been very pleased.

My load data is as follows on a Dillion 550B

Caliber: 9mm
Powder: 3.5gr Vihtavuori N320
Bullet: 147gr Precision Bullets (Molly coated lead)
Case: Winchester
Primer: Winchester Small Pistol
OAL: 1.141

Out of my M&P 9L this yields around a 135 power factor.

My concerns with the Square Deal are:

• you can only load pistol calibers, were are the 550B can load rifle calibers also

• the cost to load another caliber is higher then the 550B

• can only use Dillion dies, the 550B can use any standard (7/8" X 14) die

• cost of the 550B is less then $100 more

I wish the 550 was auto indexing.
I know most people say it doesnt slow you dont to index the press manually, but I like the idea of having it.

I heard that Tom may be coming to the Magnolia match this Sunday. He sells the Precision Delta jacketed bullets (not the coated Precision bullets) and the prices are generally a couple dollars less than what you can get them directly from Precision Delta for I believe. If you want great jacketed bullets, then look to Montana Gold and Precision Delta.
If you want moly-koted, then look to Precision Bullets, Bayou Bullets, Bear Creek Bullets, or Black Bullets International.
If you want cast lead, then look to Mastercastbullets.com or Missouri Bullets.
If you want plated, see the recommended jacketed bullet manufacturers above.
Buy at least 1000, and 3000+ is better. I go with JHPs in 9mm/.38.
If you are going the heavy bullet track of action shooting, then look at Precision Delta and their 147gn FMJ-FP--these are a bit more accurate in more guns that any FMJ-RN.
If you have the money, buy 6000 from Precision Delta. Then when you work up a load, you know that you will still have over 5500 bullets of the same lot.

I do not disagree with any point you have on the Dillion SD. In fact I would add one more... more options for the 550 (including aftermarket stuff!). That said, I bought the SD because I only own 4 .357's and nothing else. I was able to get a factory refurb for $275 complete with dies and such. I love the auto-index and consider it fundamental to safety.. its hard to double charge when the bullet moves every time you pull the handle (even part way!).
