Remington model seven 6mm 1/2" group @200 yards
Got a Remington model seven 6mm,@200 yards this thing is dead on! I'm shooting winchester 100 GR power point ammo.My question is about the trigger assembly. Is it safe I know that some of the older model 700's have been known to go bang just by touching the bolt, would a trigger upgrade be in my best intrest?

I have shot Remington 700's all of my life and never had an unintentional discharge. If the rifle is shooting 1/2" at 200, I'd leave it alone.

We have had Remington 700s in the shop that were not safe. The problem was that the trigger assembly was just worn out from use. I replaced the trigger assembly in my son's Model 7 not because of safty issues, but because the factory trigger pull was around 7 lbs. I put a Rifle Basix trigger in his gun and droped the trigger pull to around 2 lbs.
As said above, as good as your gun is shooting, it may be best just to leave it alone.

When people adjust the trigger without knowing what they are doing, a 700 could have an AD. There was a big attack story on MSNBC about it.

That's a good round. If your worried about it have a smith check it out. I'd also leave it alone as good as its shooting.

I thought this thread was about a Remington model 7
Does anyone actually read a thread any more or just scan
Actually the model 7 is a great rifle....pretty much just the carbine version. I have several in 308 and they are fine rifles
Carry on

I've got a Model 7 in 7mm 08 and tinkered with the trigger a while back. Don't know how light, but it was light. Took it to the range and fired a few shots. Then, I was getting ready to fire another shot and the safety was stuck. I had the gun in a vise on target and forced the safety to fire and it discharged. Didn't do a bit of harm, but scared the snot out of me. That trigger got adjusted back to where it was and no problems since.

Do you read threads???? He asked about 700 trigger problems in his OP. I have no experience with the model 7, but plenty with the 700. That's why I didn't speak on the 7.
Now you carry on!

we got a lot of smart butts on here...dont we...I'm one of em :P
Thread says I have a Rem model 7 then asks about 700 triggers...they might be the identical for all I know....I know they are interchangeable....
just can't say they are identical...
Lets's face it....when you modify a trigger yourself or have a smith do it....you are on your own
I've seen the Rem 700 documentary....I thing its pure bull myself....never had a bit of trouble and my triggers are very light.
I have Jewells, Rifle Basix and Timmney all in Rem 7's and 700's...also run some stock....no issues whatsoever
Don't put finger on trigger until you are ready to shoot is the best advise I have...

Re: Remington model seven 6mm 1/2" group @200 yards
Only comment I can make is that I was TOLD that some of the problems are from gummed up dirty triggers. I had a model 7. Just wasn't my Ruger so I sold it. Just prefer the feel of the Ruger over the 700s myself. Never owned a 700. Not much desire to...

1. Make sure the rifle is not loaded.
2. Cock bolt and click the safety off
3. Bounce the bottom of the butt on the ground a few time ( you don't have to slam it on the ground)
4. If the rifle does not dry fire you are good. If it does have a competent Gunsmith look at it do not try to adjust the trigger your self unless you possess the skill and know how. With that being said if it is the old style rem trigger there is no need to upgrade, it is a great trigger after it has been tuned if it is the Xmark trigger throw it away they are crap and buy a Jewell, rifle basix or timney.
