I love to shoot too but please keep in mind how we want to encourage the new shooters who frequently show up and say "I've got two clips that hold 7 rounds each, that should be enough, right"? Not to mention who wants to watch Pat and the round gun squad make 64 reloads on a stage. Of course, none of you have sent me any stage ideas yet for the match so I guess the stages will be whatever I feel like shooting again.

Re: December USPSA Match at Magnolia
Sorry guys, but I agree with John. Big stages can be a lot of fun, and I've shot 36 and 40's at Tangi and 50+ at Poplarville in the past, but it is tough on new shooters and tougher on some divisions more so than others. What an Open gun can do in 2 magazines and a Limited gun in 3 may take a Production or L10 shooter 6 magazines, a major Singlestack shooter 7 magazines, and a Revolver shooter 10 or so moon clips. I'd support a 36 or so round stage if it was a good stage design and not just adding targets to be adding targets, but much more than that is probably too much in my opinion. If it was to be done, it would need to be advertised and run separately so everyone knew ahead of time, like those high round count matches held around the country each year. It's probably too late for this weekend's match with nearly 40 shooters already signed up.
That being said, I'm all for some big, well designed field courses this weekend. I'll try and shoot you a couple John so you will have a few to pick from.

Re: December USPSA Match at Magnolia
Pretty much everything Jeremy designs looks great and I frequently wind up using his stages...but whenever possible I prefer it if we can come up with our own or use his as "inspiration" for our own modified versions for a couple reasons.
1. He runs his own club not too far away and the idea that he may run a stage one weekend and then we run the same stage the next weekend bugs me.
2. I keep a file of all the stages we shoot during the year and we choose our state match stages out of that file. I'd hate to have someone pay the money to come shoot our big match and see stages in it that were already used in another big match like Area 4, The Gator, etc. but we didn't know it. The more home grown / drawn for use at Magnolia stages we use in local matches the less chance there is of that happening.
Maybe I'm being paranoid and no one would care but that's just me.

Re: December USPSA Match at Magnolia
Since I'm shooting open - I vote that we have 24-26 round stages with nothing but paper - this way everyone has to do reloads but us open folks - I need to beat Will this weekend :-)

Oh man I'm almost gonna feel bad when I hurt your feelings again. Make sure that dot is sighted in buddy.
I'm worried about the weather though.

As I told you early - feel free to wuss out if you want.
I have 6 target stands - 3 poppers and 3-6" steel plates - we can run our own stages unless you are scared :-)

Re: December USPSA Match at Magnolia
Yeah but I'll be taking a 2 hour drive there, 5 hour match, 2 hour drive back. That's a big chunk of studying and I'm not gonna miss it if the match isn't going to happen.

Re: December USPSA Match at Magnolia
How many of those 9 hours will you ACTUALLY study - 3? So you will only miss 3 hours - get your girl friend to drive you home and back and you just gained 4 hours of available study time - problem solved....

As usual John is right. Since we cannot have a high round count stage let's have a MICHAEL JACKSON MEMORIAL STAGE. You have to " moon walk " through the stage. Brandon can show us how.

And we could always replace a few of those poppers with a TX Star :-)

Can we bring our rifles and have a 2 gun after the match?

My only concern is 180 traps out the wazoo. Needs barrels (lots o' double-stacked barrels) or something that hides the targets or removes them from view as the shooter proceeds downrange. I know it is the shooter's responsibility not to break the 180, but good stage design can decrease the risk. My $.02.

Re: December USPSA Match at Magnolia
DB - where do you see 180 traps at? I must not be seeing them cuz It looks pretty straight forward with no place really for traps....
The fault line doesnt look like it goes past the opening in the middle center so you cant really pass up a target - if you forget to shoot the right or left side - and you break the 180 shooting at them - you are an idiot cuz you went like 270* to get them.....
