Does anyone have any experience with the 28" 10/22 barrels?
Been thinking about starting a new project with a 10/22 and a 28" heavy barrel. Anyone have any experience positive or negative? Will appreciate your responses.

Lots of 10/22 experience,
But none with a 28"?? What makes you want to go so long? Just curious. I dont think you will get any more performance from a 28" barrel. But if you like the way it looks, or just want to try it I can definitely understand that!
You should check over a RimfireCentral.com if you havent already.
My most accurate 10/22 to date is wearing a 16" Rimfire Technologies Quantum barrel. It will do .25" groups at 50 pretty easily with good ammo. They aren't cheap, but neither is a Kidd, and its the only 10/22 barrel I consider comparable.

I agree. But then again go for it if its what you want to do!!
I have a savage fv with a 21" barrel and its pretty accurate. I dont see where your gonna gain anything with a 28". But then again ive been wrong before.
Give it a go! You can always cut it down if need be.

I've been doing some research on this same subject (long vs. short / heavy vs. light bbl). From everything I've been reading you start losing velocity after 16 inches in the barrel in a 22LR. I have a Savage mkII BV 21" heavy bbl and I'm getting a touch over quarter size groups at 100yds with winchester M22 ammo.

Here are pictures of the 10/22 I built with a 28" bull barrel. I shot a few sub 1" 100yard groups with it last summer. I have plans on shooting it in 22 F-Class matches. Here is a link to a post on RimFire Central with more info on the 28" barrel: http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=410891

Rem 40-Xs have 28" barrels. But that might be more for sight radius than bullet velocity.............
