Many countries around the world eat horse meat, and this ban hasn't stopped people from sending them to Mexico or Canada to be slaughtered. There's no moral or legal reason for a ban, only a sentimental one.

I think the majority of "horse people" welcome the return of the slaughter. As a horse owner, I hear those in the community talk about the over population of horses; the return of slaughter in the US will help control that population.

P.S. I don't plan on knowingly eat any horse meat!!!! Smile

Personally it doesn't matter to me. I believe they have been slaughtering horses for years for Dog Food. Just thought it humorous that they will be slaughtering them for human consumption. I wont be eating any horse meat.

Me, too.Smile I can remember when none of us would have eaten buffalo, either, but now we consider it a special treat. Along with alligator and rattle snakes.

I'd eat horse. Heck, a lot of people have pigs, cows, and chickens as pets; and those are all things that we find totally normal to eat. If it doesn't have thumbs, it's food lol

I eat snails, fungi, oysters, etc. What's wrong with some horse meat?

I've eaten at a lot of funky "Chinese" joints...heaven knows what they serve.

When I was in Korea, we were just outside Soyu Mountain, a health resort. Koreans version of one anyway. Bunch of friends of mine and I went up there to see what delicacies we could try (And drink OB Beer and Soju). One of the things we tried was broiled dog. People think they use just any kind of dog, but they don't, they have a special breed of terrier for that (You can see them in pens when driving around, they all look the same). I had one small strip, and it was the stringiest, greasiest, nastiest thing I had ever put in my mouth. You could also see dog hanging in some shop windows downtown. Would never try dog again and will not try horse, even if it tastes like chicken.

Same here and I agree. Occasionally, someone will talk me into breakfast there, but beyond that is where I draw the line. If it were up to me, they'd have closed down years ago, because I find their food nasty.

I still remember my 'Nam buddies talking about eating monkey over there. Never knew if they were serious or not, but it didn't really sound good.

I have heard the same thing from my stepfather, who also had a pet monkey while over there.

As soon as the horse slaughter plants closed down, was when you started seeing starving horses. Like it or not, most everything is taken care of in accordance to it's worth. I'm glad to see them back up and going in the USA.

Ive personally seen the owner of a shady local one setting out traps in the lot behind his resturant. Remember where the jag dealership used to be? The building that has all the flags now on 55 frontage. The one next door is the one im referring to. This was the summer of 98 or 99(crs flaring up , forget which) we worked late one night doing inventory in the parts dept and 2 of us saw him setting them out.

Funny how culture can determine what is edible or not.

I took a trip in high school to Germany back in 1985. Only one of the group could read or speak German so when we ordered off the menu we just guessed. Chad was chowing down on his meal and decided to ask Karen to translate it. She said, "This word means meat, and this one means horse." It was neat watching him turn green.
