NEWSLETTER 2012
VANDALISM:
This ugly problem has reared it’s head again. Someone is intentionally shooting the upright turning target holders. They are also using the portable target holders to staple targets to and shooting them to pieces. If we catch anyone intentionally destroying club property they will be removed from the club and charged criminally with vandalism.
CLUB DUES:
Quarterly payments for conditional life members are due on Jan 1st, April 1st, July 1st and October 1st. If there are any questions call me at 601-249-3315. The quarterly dues are $30.00.
Members that still owe Life Membership Quarterly payments are:
Joe Larrimore
Garland McGehee
Shay Mousseau
ANNUAL DUES AND ANNUAL MEETING:
Associate members owe Annual dues on January 1st. The gate combination will be changed after the Annual Meeting. The annual meeting will be at Day’s Inn Restaurant in McComb on January 21, 2012 at 6:30PM. You have to let me know if you are going to attend the meeting and how many people you are going to be with you. If you don’t RSVP, you cannot attend. The Annual Meeting will be a business and rules meeting.
The Club’s Annual Dues are $50.00 per year. Dues for Spousal Members are $10.00. Junior dues are $10.00.
CLUB NEWS:
CLUBHOUSE – AIR RIFLE RANGE AND USE OF CLUB EQUIPMENT:
We have central air conditioning and heat in our range building. There are officers AT THE RANGE on Monday and Tuesday evenings. Members may use any club equipment on these evenings. Call first to be sure we will be there.
STORAGE BUILDING:
We have completed the storage building. The plan is to have a separate room for club equipment and a room in the front of the building for member’s accessible equipment. We have had rough plumbing installed for a toilet and sink to be installed in the member’s equipment room. We must all take care of this room or it may not be able to be kept open to the membership. It is a shame that usually it is only the officers that pick up trash or take trash home for disposal. If you see anything that needs to be picked up and disposed of, it is your duty as a club member to do so.
SEMI-ANNUAL CLUB MEETING:
We will call a meeting at the clubhouse in July. We will let everyone know when it will be held.
NRA MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED FOR SGC MEMBERS:
We passed a rule in the club, in 1988, that we would require NRA Membership for all Southwest Gun Club Members. We will require a current NRA membership card or payment before we accept dues this year or issue cards to life members. Our club is now a NRA Membership Recruiter. I can take the money for NRA memberships and cash back on each new membership or renewal will reward the club. The club has been awarded the Gold Club Award and 100% membership is required. The Range Grant relies on the club being 100% NRA Members. There is a Membership without magazine that is $10.00 per year. Many of our new members have chosen this membership.
AMMUNITION AVAILABLE FOR SALE TO CLUB MEMBERS:
.22 Long Rifle Remington Target 100 rounds $5.00
.22 Long Rifle Eley Sport 500 round brick $33.00
Highpower Ammunition
.223 Prvi Partisan 75 gr Match $.40 per round at club events only. The club keeps the brass.
.30-06 M2 Ball $.40 per round at club events only. The club keeps the brass.
The exact number of rounds will be issued on the line for the Highpower Rifle event being held, the day the ammunition is used.
MISSISSIPPI STATE FIREARM OWNERS ASSOCIATION:
I am President of the Mississippi Firearm Owners Association. We are conducting our Annual Meeting on Saturday, February 25, 2012 AT 2PM. It will be at the Bass Pro Shop in Pearl, MS. I would appreciate your attending the meeting and your support in continuing on as President of the MSFOA. There is a Gunshow that weekend at the Trademart, in Jackson, so we can make a full day of it.
NRA PERSONAL PROTECTION IN THE HOME:
February 3 &4, March 30 -31 June 1 & 2, 2012
This class is very informative and helpful for people interested in protecting their home. It not only teaches basic firearms safety and marksmanship but it instructs the students the way to make their homes safer from home invasion. We will conduct our classroom session in the SGC Clubhouse in McComb. The fee for this class is $65.00, an increase due to the cost of ammunition. The Secretary has acquired Louisiana State Patrol and Mississippi Department of Public Safety Instructor Status for this class. This will allow the participants in our class to qualify for the firearms training necessary to be issued a Louisiana Concealed Carry Permit. This class will also qualify for the training needed to get the enhanced pistol permit in Mississippi.
HB506 2011 as signed by the Governor, concerning the enhanced firearm permit in Mississippi:
A person licensed under Section 45-9-101 to carry a concealed pistol, who has voluntarily completed an instructional course in the safe handling and use of firearms offered by an instructor certified by a nationally recognized organization that customarily offers firearms training, or by any other organization approved by the Department of Public Safety, shall also be authorized to carry weapons in courthouses except in courtrooms during a judicial proceeding, and any location listed in subsection (13) of Section 45-9-101, except any place of nuisance as defined in Section 95-3-1, any police, sheriff or highway patrol station or any detention facility, prison or jail. The department shall promulgate rules and regulations allowing concealed pistol permit holders to obtain an endorsement on their permit indicating that they have completed the aforementioned course and have the authority to carry in these locations.
NRA WOMEN ON TARGET:
We will conduct this program again on Saturday April 7, 2012. We encourage those that attended in the past to come back and shoot with us again. Pre-registration is encouraged. Those that pre-register will be sure to have a spot on the relays. Lunch will be provided. The fee this year will be $20.00. We will instruct the participants in .22rf rifle, .22rf pistol and shotgun shooting. Hope to see you there.

4H, CMP, NRA AND USA JUNIOR SHOOTING NEWS:
We are using our building for 4H Practices and other Junior Activities. We will conduct 4H practices as noted on the schedule. Any club member that wishes to help the Junior shooting program is more than welcome to attend these practices. Helping with Junior Programs will count as a work-day. We are not going to shoot shotgun as a regular event at our 4H practices. The cost of the shells and the clay targets amounts to $.34 for each shot fired. The use of air rifle and pistol as well as .22rf rifle and pistol is much more economical than shotgun shooting.
Our Junior shooters signed up in the club are eligible to participate in 4H Shooting Sports as long as they join 4H. There is no fee for joining 4H.
We are conducting a NRA Junior Rifle and Pistol Camp on June 4-8, 2012. For more details contact the Secretary. This camp is open to all ages from 8 years and above.
We are selling the last Remington 513T rifle we have in stock for $400. The money generated will be used to buy better .22rf Target rifles and other equipment. Call the Secretary for details.
Our monthly NRA-USAS matches at the indoor range in McComb are open to all Junior shooters. Matches marked Open are open to all shooters, including Adults. For more info call 504-343-7597.
We have been very proud of our Junior Air Pistol shooters. Our team of four shooters got the following awards at the Progressive Air Pistol National Championships at Anniston, Alabama, in July, 2011. The first three shooters mentioned made up our standing position team. They won 1st place team in the Nation.
Jay Raymond, Garrett Rayborn and Thomas Ricks were the SGC Junior Members that fired on the Team.
Thomas Ricks captured 1st place Individual National Champion.
Miles Sinagra, Wallace Smith and Jeff Rayborn fired in the Basic Supported Position. Their team took 2nd Place in the National Match.
Miles Sinagra earned 2nd Place in the Basic Supported Division.
Louis and Lucy Cundiff attended the match as certified coaches and support personnel.
Anyone that would like to help sponsor our 2012 National Air Pistol Team, donations would be accepted. The donation would be tax deductible. Corporate Sponsors would also be welcome. The trip to Alabama is an expensive proposition and we need to support our young shooters.
ACTION PISTOL NEWS:
Maurice Williams is the Match Director for the Action Pistol Program. The program has purchased a new set of plates and plans to build a dedicated Barricade Range where the Falling Plates Range used to be.
When: 3/17/12, 4/21/12, 5/19/12 and 6/16/12. Signup 830AM shooting stars at 9:00AM.
NRA INTERNATIONAL AIR PISTOL LEAGUE:
We will be conducting these events each Monday (except as noted). We will have relays at 3:00PM and 5:00PM. The fee will be $5.00 per night. This will include the use of a Baikal IZH-46M pistol, pellets and targets. Adult Men will shoot 60 shots each night and Junior and Women shooters will shoot 40 shots but they can shoot 60 shots if they desire to do so. For more information call the Secretary. If you really want to learn to shoot a pistol with one hand, this is the way to do it. It is the most challenging pistol sport I have ever participated in.
NRA MID-RANGE POSITION BP TARGET RIFLE:
This event is quite a challenge. Our club is conducting 7 tournaments this year. The rifle has to be a traditional single shot rifle with exterior hammer. It must be loaded with lead bullets and Black Powder. The sights have to be the vernier tang type. Call the contact number for more information.
TRAP SHOOTS:
If anyone is interested in conducting these trap shoots call the Secretary. We will be calling these
events as the weather allows on Sunday afternoons. We have done this in the past on a last minute basis and it worked out very well. If you are interested in participating in the trap shoots, call or email the Secretary , so he can put you on a list of shooters. The fee for a round of trap will be $5.00. The shooter has to furnish his or her own shells. No shotgun cartridges should be used at our trap shoots that are more powerful than 3 dram 1-1/8 oz shot. No shot size will be allowed larger that 7-1/2.
We have been awarded a $3000.00 grant from the NRA Range Grant Fund to buy a used automatic trap for trap shooting. We are working on buying a trap.
NOTIFICATION TO MATCH DIRECTORS ON INTENT TO ATTEND A MATCH:
We are asking that members and non-members call the Match Director to let them know if they are going to attend a match. This will make it easier for the Match Directors to plan their relays and arrange the equipment for the event. The Match Director’s phone numbers are listed on the Gun Club Schedule.
When handling firearms in a tournament, it is best to bring them up to the firing line in a closed case. The muzzle of the firearm should be pointed downrange and the case opened at the friing line as to not sweep anyone with the firearm.
