454 Casull Manufacturers
Ok I am thinking after the new year I might add another revolver to the stable. I am a big fan of my Ruger 45 colts and I think the 454 Casull might be the way to go. My father in law has one I shoot occasionally so I know what I am getting into power wise.
The appeal is that I could you is mainly to shoot 45 Colts, but also the occasional 454. Question though, does the 45 Colt lose any accuracy in the 454 revolvers?
Also what companies should I look at, current or used. Here are the ones I know of
Ruger (If I bought one today it would be the Ruger SRH)
Magnum research (don't know much about it, but it seems to be in the same price range as Ruger)
Taurus (a little cheaper, but I think I would spend the xtra $$ for the Ruger)
Freedom Arms (A little too pricey for )
Am I missing anybody. Anyone have any other recommendations?

I would go with a 460. You could shoot 45 L.C. and 454 Casull. Can shop for the best ammo price. Let us know what you decide on.
Can't speak to accuracy of any of the pistols you mentioned but I like a Ruger. Saving money, I'd check out a Taurus. Don't know any of the other two.

I have a SRH in 454 a love it. I shoot 300 grain JSP's in mine and it shoots pretty good 50 yard groups, but only killed one deer with it so far. I wanted a FA gun when I got this but I'm satisfied and the money diffrence is huge.

That's a review of the Ruger Super Redhawk in .454/.45lc. Accuracy was good with all loads tested, handloads and factory. That's the gun I'd go with if I was looking for a .454. If I remember correctly, the Taurus .454's have 5 shot cylinders, but maybe I'm wrong there.

Re: 454 Casull Manufacturers
I have seen several Field Grade FA's go for $800-1000. That is about the only route I'd go for a 454.
The BFR is fairly nice, but for the same money you can get a decent used FA, so there is no comparison.
Most 454's have seen (way)less than 100 rounds
I'd run far far away from a Taurus in any flavor

My revolver collection is pretty Single Action heavy and think I would perfer a Double Action. The more I think about it the more I like the Ruger SRH option. Do you have any experience with these

Re: 454 Casull Manufacturers
My dad has a SRH Alaskan in 454. I have shot it a little bit. Not enough to know much about them though
I am sure it is a good revolver that serves some purpose, but I don't know what purpose that is other than laying in the safe. Many moons ago I had a Taurus Raging bull, but it would nearly set the bench on fire due to its wide cylinder gap. I had come across it cheap and wanted a revolver to hunt with. After shooting it a bit, I tried my Bisley Vaquero 44 that I had laying in the safe and realized it outshot the Taurus plus it was lighter. So the Taurus went down the road and my first handgun deer was with the 44.
Now I might would have to have a 454 SRH to steal the cylinder from and put it into a 4" 45 Redhawk like Snyd did here

Other than the coolness factor of that revolver, I can't see a reason to own a DA 454. I can't think of a single scenario where a 454 and DA offers any advantage over a SA.
With all that said, most people report that the SRH's are accurate. I had one in 480 and it shot great. It was just a bit heavy for my tastes. Didn't hurt that I had traded a Single Six straight across for it.

One other down side to the DA is sticky extraction with true 454 loads. Some of my loads require a pretty good tap from the ejector rod. Multiply that times 6 and you are getting into hammer territory.
