Best ammo for S&W 22A?

A friend has bought a new S&W 22A and is having functioning problems with Winchester ammo. Does anyone have experience with what brand works best with these guns?

Its hard to say for a particular model gun, as .22s usually vary from gun to gun, even the same model.

I've never liked any of Winchesters .22 ammo.

What will he be doing with the pistol? hunting? targets?
Try CCI minimags and Federal Automatch, both available at Walmart. CCI standard velocity is great for targets.
I'd stay away from Remington .22 as well.. never had good look with any of it.

Mine runs great with CCI (any grade), Federal, and Wolf....doesn't like Win or Rem either.....

I shoot Federal 550rd bulk pack (Walmart) 90% of the time with all my 22 rifles & pistols and have had very little to no trouble out of it or the guns. I think as far as cheap ammo goes its hard to beat. Its nothing for me and my son to shoot a brick at a time and may have 4 to 5 that won't fire but we just put them back in a mag and it fires the second time. Hardly ever any feeding problems. But all 22s are different for sure. Mine are 2 Ruger 10/22s, 1 Remington 552, and a Ruger 22/45.

Like everyone has said above - they ALL seem to like something different ...... just going to have to give several makes a try!!

22s are a boatload of FUN!!
