Venezuela 98 in 7mm

Post by rdj94a on Mon Dec 05, 2011 12:52 pm

I picked up one that is near mint and matching with a perfect bore, I think these things were made in the late 30's or early 40's. Other than that don't know too much about them but it sure ought to be a great shooter.

This is the nicest military mauser I have seen in 30 years.

Cool gun, like that crest. I wonder how much 7mm ammo costs and is it easy to find? I've seen some other 7mm mausers advertised for sale here and there.

Prvi Partisan, Hornady,Norma, Sellior & Bellot, Winchester, and Remington I know still produce ammo in 7x57mm.

Prvi $15.99
Hornady $28.88-$35.99
Norma $49.49
Sellior $16.99-$20.49
Winchester $28.49
Remington $27.99

All Prices from Midway, before I started loading my own I used the hornaday custom 139gr interlock and it did great on deer. All the way up to a 200+lb buck. I haven't been able to find any surplus ammo out there, don't know if any exists or not. I deer hunt with this cartridge and love it. Now I use 140gr sgk over 45gr IMR 4350.
Brass can sometimes be a pain to find once fired for a decent price.

Personally, for human targets and medium-sized game I think 7mm Mauser is just about one of the best rounds ever invented.

JMHO.

Everyone I have ever shot has been sweet, I'll have to take a real good look to see if this has been fired.

If I had to use factory ammunition, it would be Norma all the way. That stuff is great and will do some kind of number on a whitetail of big hogs.

I can see a faint ring on the polished bolt so I will assume that it has been fired.
