Scope for my 444

Post by crzylee on Mon Dec 05, 2011 3:16 pm

I just bought a H&R 444 and it came with a Hammers 3-9x40 scope http://www.dealextreme.com/p/3-9x40-gd-zooming-rifle-scope-6378 (best link I can find on the scope). I was told the rifle only had 6 rounds put through it, but I'm not sure this inexpensive scope will hold up to the recoil the 444 has. Has anyone heard or used this scope? Is it reliable enough to leave on my 444? If not what scope is recommended for the 444?

Thanks!

Lee

I am not familiar with that scope, but I have a 30 dollar tasco on mine.I bought it from a friend for 10 dollars with intentions of upgrading at the end of the year. That was 3 years ago. I have not had to reset it yet. If the hammers shoots true, go for it. I check all my rifles each year before hunting with them so I have no surpises. Good luck.

444

Post by 9point on Tue Dec 06, 2011 2:52 pm

I had a 444 , and had a Tasco 3x9x50 on it for several years...No complaints at all. Sold it to get a 35 whelen...got it shot it, and wasn't real happy with it! Plus, it gave me a headache when I shot it. I just wasn't comfortable with it after shooting..So I found another 444 and sold the 35.....I put my Nikon Pro Staff on it...GREAT SCOPE! I got it at Surplus City, in Clinton for $125... I believe it was the Older style....The new ones have the "quick -focus" on them, and cost more now.

I don't know anything about what you have, but I kinda agree with Styker...Make sure you don't waste a bunch of ammo money trying to sight in something that may not be a reliable scope! Good Luck!! Get a BIG one! sniper

Get a decent scope for the 444 - If things are really really tight try a Nikon Prostaff...its cheap but has worked for me on some of my lesser quality rigs like 444 Handi

Thanks for all the info. I will probably ditch this one and put it on my M&P 15-22 I just got. My budget is to try not spend more than $200

Bushnell 4200's are great if you can find one. They are no longer being produced in lieu of the 6500

They can still be had...a real price performer...but more than $200

So the $200 for the 4200 Elite with free shipping is a good deal?

It's a good deal on a great scope. I have two of the 2.5-10x44 models and I've had them mounted on everything from a 7mm ultra mag to a 30-30 and they've always held zero.
