Old recall news, call me lucky

Post by Fish_Head on Mon Dec 05, 2011 10:30 pm

Well, it just gets better on the recalls. 1st my TC Venture which I like gets recalled (should be back soon they tell me). Now I decide to take my late father's scoped inline muzzleloader out instead of the old Hawken. So out of curiosity I check the Internet and Google "cva Apollo", and "Dangerous Muzzleloaders" is about all there is on there for a page or so.... 2 years of guns recalled (95-96), and it's one of them. Bummer. But it would have been worse if I blew my face off 1st.

I give a lot of credit to y'all for the info that is posted for me to even look. I recall a recent thread about quality and Encore vs something, which I read. Might have saved my life! thumbs up

I guess I'm lucky I only loaded two 50-gr pyrodex pellets when I zeroed it for Dad back when. I think using 3 was what part of the problem was. But a 0.5 safety factor is Way off what US mfg use. Kinda like lead painted kids toys.

I reckon I have been lucky and have learnt a valuable lesson.... Thanks for posting and giving your opinions!

That is a bummer; however, you did good in checking it out ... always a good thing to be SAFE!!!

I have my TC Venture back. CVA said they'll send me a new break-action ml rifle, and the Apollo is boxed up. Might work out for the best.
Both companies did well on customer service so far. Does cost me to reload and re- zero but better than a misfire or barrel failure...
