I can just see it now...Hello Mr. ATF agent...if you would just un-cuff me...maybe I could get the SIM card in this IPHONE to work where you could see my doc....

Since I work in the technology business...I'm very distrusting of it...Hard copy for me baby...especially on this stuff

Re: NFA item holders - How do you carry your paperwork ?
People are WAY to panicky about this. I have met quite a few people who have NFA toys and none of the have ever had to produce their documentation to the ATF. Some people have voluntarily shown their paperwork to local law enforcement. If you read the NFA book the ATF is the only authority that you have to show your documentation to. Anyone that can own a gun can own an NFA item so there is nothing that you need to prove to local law enforcement that you would not have to prove with any other gun.
All you are required to prove to the ATF is that you have paid the tax associated with NFA ownership. If you are in that situation they are not going to be satisfied with a copy done on a printer. They are going to want to see the original tax stamp. I don't recommend carrying your original around with you so you are going to have to give up your gun or can while you produce the original stamp. Ther is some supposition that copying a stamp could be constrewed as counterfeiting. I don't think this way but technically it is.
The probability of running into a local yocal Leo that still thinks that you can't own an NFA firearm is greater than a run in with an ATF inspector. That being said you may be able to snow him with paperwork but he will not know what he is looking at. The deal is if he wants to take your gun he will. No amount of paperwork will stop that. Either way you will have to have a lawyer to get it back.
The way I see it. Carry your paperwork if it makes you feel more comfortable. Don't stress out about it. If you have done your paperwork and are not breaking the law while using your NFA toys you will be OK. I am required to carry my FFL with me and I do carry a copy of my trust and form 4's. The reason is some of my items are owned personally and some are owned by the company. If I didn't have my FFL. I would not carry any of it.
