HK91 clone

well i opted a G3/hk91 clone over the FAL. Found it for a good deal online and should be finishing up the transaction today. Already got my caliber conversion for the dillon sitting at the house plus 1000 147gr FMJ's ready to be loaded! just need some brass = ( really really dont wanna shoot my fed GM or lapua brass in a fluted chamber but i may load 20 or so just to get some trigger time.
Weidners has 2000ct for $198 but i really just want 1k. anyone wanna split it with me?

You may want to look at getting an ejection port buffer for it. I could be mistaken, but I think I read somewhere that a buffer does a lot towards protecting your brass. My PTR 91 doesn't have a buffer and ends up putting a nice dent in almost every case. There's also a newer style buffer that's not supposed to scratch the finish when installing.

Does it have a fluted chamber like the HK? If so the brass is going to be fluted AND dented when it ejects.

You know who built it? I've got a FMP HK91/G3 kit along with a couple Romanian G kits I picked up several years ago stored in the back of my safe. I've been debating on having them built or selling them off.

Re: HK91 clone
Well......................... at least the mags are SUPER cheap for that HK......
I have about 30 in a box somewhere around here..........
With the HK.... I suggest buying the cheapest 308 you can find and forget about the brass. HKs are great rifles..... just HELL on the brass.

yea mags are cheap! im got 10 for 30 bucks.. they have a beater pack of 100 for $89 i might attempt to get.
This will be my first time with a fluted chamber. if i can get some good el-cheap-o mil surp brass i might shoot and forget it but im gonna do some testing to see how many reloads i can get befor case destruction.

...waiting for a range report. I'm on the fence between one of those, a FAL, or an AR10.

Re: HK91 clone
Loved my HK91, but it was hell on the brass as others have said. Chunked it forward and to the right about 10 yards!! Fluted chamber made it really 'neat' looking with the stripes on it and a huge dent in each one. Never got around to getting a port buffer, so not sure how much those help. Ended up selling it because once I started shooting my FAL, I never shot her much. Super reliable and mine was very accurate to boot!

Stripping it is EASY. Getting the bolt back together can be...complicated. There's a trick to getting the bolt head back together and in the carrier. There's even a Bundeswehr trick for dropping it into the receiver backwards (which was strictly verboten but the recruits did it anyway). And I can teach you just the right German which you will scream at the bolt & carrier when you've snapped it together wrong for the third time, so that it will go together correctly on the next try...
