Springfield M1A Mount

Post by jbwonfire on Wed Dec 07, 2011 2:00 pm

I am thinking about scoping out my Springfield M1A. Who can tell me about the mounts for it. Brands, quality, experiences. I don't want to spend a fortune but I don't want to skimp and have problems either.

Everything you need to know is in this pdf

http://imageseek.com/m1a/M14_Scope_Mount_FAQ_070225.pdf

You may also want to look at the m14 forum's optics page

http://m14forum.com/optics/

If I were you I think I'd get a sadlak industries mount.

I am going with a Basset low profile mount for my M1A based on my needs & research.

I will have it by January. The scope will have to wait unfortunately...

I did some research on this a while back. Whatever you do DON'T go with the Springfield mount. I went that way initially but it is a POS. Aluminum, not sturdy. After much debating I finally went with Smith Enterprises: http://www.smithenterprise.com/products03.03.html

A close second was this one: http://www.sadlak.com/si_rifle_parts_sm.html

It costs big bucks but you pay for what you get.

Great suggestions guys, but I can't spend that kinda money on one. Has anyone tryed a Millet? I just can't see putting a mount on a rifle for what I can buy a gun for. If I do that I might as well buy a bolt rifle. Was just thinking I needed a good scoped rifle(besides my 06)for just in case.

Here is a ARMS #18 mount in use with an American Defense aimpoint mount. This is an earlier version, maybe about 10-15 years old. They have since redesigned it to have a flat rail across the bolt area instead of a gap there. See here: http://www.botachtactical.com/arms1.html

I've mounted it once and never taken it off and its never came loose or caused any trouble in all this time. Very sturdy and mounts at three points. My only complaint , as with all decent M1A mounts is that it renders useless your clip guide. Its nice to push a clip in once and a while just for old times sake.
