WD40 and a paper towel works for me. I clean the front of the cylinder with a USGI toothbrush

If it is stainless steel you can use OOOO steel wool. I also use Hilco wipes or lube. I have found this to be one of the best cleaners around. If blued then Doug is right on for toothbrush. Just remember WD40 will shellac up after time.

WD40 seems to attract dirt to me most of the time I hardly worry with those blast stains. About twice a year I will get a soft tooth brush an baking soda and go at it

I use a Birchwood Casey lead remover cloth. Cut a small patch off of it and start rubbing. Don't use it on blued firearms, though.

Last time I cleaned a 629 it was much easier with Flitz and a dremel polishing wheel. Probably saved me 2 hours of scrubbing. MPRO 7 first to remove the gross easy carbon.

The old Ballistol is good on that and to remove copperfouling. Add a good amount of it in the cylinders and let it settle for a day or amybe two and you will get the dirt out. The same with copperfouling.
