The US Air Force dumped remains of airmen in Garbage Dump

It seems the USAF has dumped the cremated bodies and body parts of 274 servicemen recently killed in action in a landfill in Virginia. Also, many servicemen's bodies were buried at sea.

This is an unacceptable practice. The reason given was there were no Family members to reclaim the bodies. I am sure the Air Force gave these servicemen a full military funeral at the Garbage Dump.

A serviceman that gives the ultimate sacrifice to our Country should not be treated this way.

I am disgusted with the USAF for allowing this to happen. Whoever is responsible, should be Court Martialed.

I just saw the report on this too Doug...had just eaten and almost became physically ill. I hope they get all the folks responsible for this.

Not to defend anything here but certain body parts were routinely incinerated and disposed of for years in military hospitals. Removed limbs as well as placentas among those I know about. I don't believe the Civilian Hospitals are any different. Those folks they came from were still alive AFAIK and I worked in surgery. These "remains" are not really identified other than as body parts so I am not sure where the line is drawn these days.

mikey, I think you are probably right about some of these remains being body parts that are normally incinerated...I sure hope that's the case with all of them. I hate to think of the alternative.

That's old news and it was body parts. There were complaints from some families because they felt the USAF hadn't went above and beyond to insure all the parts were returned with their loved one...policies were changed and some disiplinary actions were taken. That would be one job I wouldn't want.

Hopefully there are no military KIA whose last remains were the were the only thing left of the body and they got thrown in the trash like common garbage. With all the stuff going on at Arlington, nothing surprises me anymore. We owe our Troops and their loved ones more.

To me there is a difference between cremating (incinerating) body parts and disposing of them in a landfill.
The landfill should be reserved for the politicians who pay themselves far better benefits that our service men and women get.
