Post by PAYCHECK on Sat Dec 10, 2011 8:10 pm

My brother sent these to me. Not sure where they were taken but thought I'd share them.

You know its interesting...I'm in the kill em all camp as well. But every time I talk to a relative who is a veterinarian and very knowledgeable about such things always tells me that yotes mainly eat mice....

Either these photo's are photoshopped or I might have to change my opinion

We got tons of yotes...never seem to lose any calves or cows however and we have been cattle farming for many many years

Might be overlookin some good times at night....Might have to tell Santa to get me a coyote call and decoy

And I had a guy tell me not to long ago that coyotes dont kill deer.
They just eat them after they die or kill rats, rabbits or other small critters.

I don't know.
It's possible either way. Photoshopped or actually happened.
It's kinda hard to believe that the deer stayed in front of the camera that long with yotes on his tail. But anything is possible. Just because there isn't cameras full of stuff like this doesn't mean it isn't happening all the time.

The deer was probably wounded by an arrow or hit by a cat and weak to begin with, cause a buck that big would have tore that yote up.

I believe it can happen, I know a yote will tear up a turkey population so thats why I say kill them all

From all I read ever read about coyotes, they hunt mainly small animals, but it always states they will hunt deer and livestock, if nothing else is around for them to eat.

When I was farming in the Delta, we watched a pack of 5 yotes try and kill a deer in a bean field. They chased it in a relay, one or two would chase it till they got tired, then another yote would take over the chase, guess they were trying to tire the deer out till it collasped. We watched for an half hour, till they started getting close to it while chasing it, then we shot a couple of the coyotes and let the deer get to the woods. thumbs up

I don't know much of anything about this subject, but I have a hard time believing that an animal the size of a coyote could get sufficient nourishment eating mice. I think it would spend more energy finding and catching them that it would get from eating them.

http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/mammals/coyote/

"These adaptable animals will eat almost anything. They hunt rabbits, rodents, fish, frogs, and even deer. They also happily dine on insects, snakes, fruit, grass, and carrion. Because they sometimes kill lambs, calves, or other livestock, as well as pets, many ranchers and farmers regard them as destructive pests"

In the 1960's Coyotes and Coy Dogs killed so many deer in New York that the Conservation Department offered a $100 reward for them. My friend and I went to the Adirondack Mountians and killed 6 one weekend. $600 was a lot of money in 1962. You could buy 24 USGI 1911 .45 pistols for that amount of money or about 5 1873 Colt .45's or 5 Colt Pythons. Times have changed but coyotes have not.

I know they kill domestic animals as well. We have lost 4 cats and almost lost a corgy to coyote attack. The corgy was near death, ended up losing all of his hide from just behind his head to the middle of his back. He looked like a burn victim that had been debrided. After he had healed sufficiently they had to stretch his hide up to his head and suture it together; for a while he looked like a "Frankenstein" dog. About 3 months after he recovered he went after them again but by that time we had been adopted by a Leopard Cur who intervened and killed one of the coyotes;the Corgy came out with a few bites on his haunches. However now both dogs howl & cower whenever the pack is running nearby. The Corgy stays inside at night. Needless to say, I shoot coyotes every chance I get.

Our neighbor keeps 2 donkeys with his herd of cows. I have seen the aftermath of them stomping a pack of feral dogs. They are very protective and don't let coyotes anywhere near the cows.

My wives cousin had an English Bulldog that would go after coyotes. One night back this summer he got in a fight with a few of em and killed one but they got him good in the process. They took him to the vet but he had lost to much blood and had to many puncture wounds. We gonna try and thin the pack shortly I think.
