Pics of the kids.

Post by beltfed on Sun Dec 11, 2011 11:26 am

Decided to show off a little bit. Heres some of the collection.

Last week I dropped of some AK bolts to Lt Dan for his premium polishing package and while they were all in the shop getting reassembled I noticed that the lighting was too good to not take advantage.
Lt.Dan worked his mad buffing wheel skills on my RPK, PSL, AK74 and Saiga 12 bolts. GOt on more for you Dan, that old WASR's bolt looks a little lacking compared to the rest......

Lt. Dan what do you use to polish the bolts with. I have a buffing wheel on a drill and one for a bench top grinder. what compounds do you use? I had just those red and white bricks. I have seen several newer compounds at harbor freight recently. I'd like to try polishing my bolts and internals for my AR's. Are you a smith or just do this for friends?

I use a mixture of a soft wire wheel to get the rough stuff off, then a tight stitch buffing wheel and a loose weave wheel. For compounds there is a variety, I like the black and green ones. But you just have to make sure you don't let the compounds build up on the part, it can get messy and dirty. I use a bench top buffer but I need to mount it to a pedestal so I can use it better. I do work for the general public but being as I am not insured I won't do some jobs as I don't feel comfortable doing them, i.e. trigger or receiver work.

Dan, that's the second time I've heard of a soft wire wheel (First was Doug Bowser). Said you could touch the wheel as it was spinning and not get even a rub. Mine is way to rough, eat it down to raw metal in a blink. Is the wheel actually metal or some sort of composite? What kind of RPM and is it adjustable or preset? What wheel are you using and where did you get it. I want one.
That's great work on those rifles, you do good work.
