I doubt they shot it down. No visible damage.

More likely they took control of it and landed it.

Another possibility: A muslim in the US DOD flew it down to them.

ABC story (8 DEC)

This story gives a bit more information. The craft in the pictures with the Iranians definitely looks like a mock-up. I bet the original is structurally FUBAR; I just hope the data and programming on it is destroyed as well.

When it happened, the news reported that it wasn't shot down, but crashed instead and the one the Iranians have doesn't look much like the one the media was showing. Speculation is that the one their showing is a mock up or the real one pieced back together. They reported that the HD on the thing did have an auto erase function, but I was left with the feeling that might be speculation, as well. Iran says they aren't gonna return it, though and that if it happens again there will be a strong response. Come on ragheads, we want to see your strong response. To be perfectly honest, it's about time for us to go in there and kick some ass anyway. We have a little payback to deliver for past and/or present actions. We have a good excuse right now. They've got a piece of our hardware that we'd like to have back and they've got a retired FBI agent they're holding hostage. Sounds good enough for me.Smile

I don't think we need to send One person into Iran if there is going to be rules of engagement. If you are not going to let them do their job keep them out of harms way.

This plus the Pakistanis are pissed at us/NATO for accidentally killing 25 of their troops. Things not going good over there.

So if Iran crashed a spy plane in US territory, we'd hand it right back, right?

Just making sure.

That's a risk that any country takes when sending air craft into enemy air space...if it goes down they get a look see at the technology. And no, you ain't gettin' it back. I'm just glad we have unmanned drones doing that work...and they don't have a pilot in prison too.

Naw Man. I just needed an excuse to turn all that sand into glass.Smile Hate to say it and I'm sure it wouldn't go over very well, but I think we were a little premature in giving up our nukes. I still subscribe to the scorched earth policy, because that's probably the only way we'll ever get their attention. We can find a spot for Israel over here somewhere, then just wipe the whole region off the face of the earth. Sound too radical? Probably so.Smile

Taken by Pakistani government, most likely shown to/tested by Chinese, scheduled to be returned to US government soon.
