So I looked at the link and then found EMP on Wikipedia. As far as i can tell, while certainly it would SUCK big time... the IF part is just overwhelming. An EMP bomb is not an easy thing to pull off. You dont just build a generic nuke and blow it somewhere over the USA at any old altitude and hope it provides the EMP desired. Could Russia do this probably, China... maybe... some middle eastern country... not likely. I do worry about alot things, an EMP strike just isn't one of them at this point.

I tend to agree, a massive solar flare eruption would do MUCH more damage to our electrical grid, as well as trash most satellites....it ain't like we can just throw a bunch back up there quickly ya know. Scientists say we are overdue and watching the sun closely for signs. I actually think that is much more likely in the near future.

So are you completely sure that China, Russia, or NORTH KOREA would not 'aid' a foe (Iran or terrorists) that does not YET have the technology so that foe may pull something like this off...

An EMP at the given altitude would be the MOST effective...but one that was 'off' by a few thousand feet would still put much of this country into the dark ages. One at half their stated altitude would still put about 30% of the country into the dark ages...we DO NOT have the emergency response capability to sustain even an event of that magnitude.

Getting a single NUKE would be the difficult part, the rest of the technology exists among enough people that HATE us to make it possible to pull off. They could launch high enough well off shore, away from defenses, of any coasts and still black out considerable lengths of our highly populated coasts...Atlantic, Pacific, or Gulf.

I have read the EMP Commissions report. It is sobering.

This scenario IS NOT far fetched once the enemy possesses a single NUKE. Now, ask yourself, is their a nation or several nations, that would love to see a 'third party' strike on the U.S. with no direct ties back to their leadership, a crime with no 'smoking gun'? A single EMP at high altitude would EVENTUALLY kill many more people and weaken the U.S. more severely and long term than a single nuclear detonation on a particular city.

Next to an economic collapse due to increasing and unsustainable debt, this is the most likely source of MASS chaos within the U.S.

I'm not saying it can't happen and I'm glad someone somewhere is worried about it. It's just that I have this big internal coffee mug labeled "Stuff I have the time to worry about" and, unfortunately, my cup is running over already.

Mine runneth over continuously...Might be a blessing in disguise to try and live without all this technology....

I could make it...How bout ya'll....would have to walk a lot...weigh loss program

Seriously - I'm sure if we knew 1 millionith of the nasty stuff our enemies would throw at us...no one would ever sleep.

I just as soon not know that many details
