A New Ruger

Post by Muleskinner on Tue Dec 13, 2011 11:01 pm

Ruger just e-mailed this to me. Very interesting, I must say. However, I'm still
a sucker for the GP-100 (blue, 6") with the rosewood inset grips. thumbs up

I had seen that. Should have called it an upgrade to their GP100, not the sp101 (I own both). Good looking gun. Trying to set the hook on people like me. Ain't gonna happen even if that's an upgrade from the 101 and the 100.
OK, I've got to resist the force.

Nice gun. Not so nice price, but may be worth it. Wonder what the real price will be.

Interesting that a .22 weighs more than a .357.

The 101 has non-adjustable sights and the 100 sights are adjustable---right?

I think I have a 101, but not a 100. Wish mine had adjustable sights.

The GP100 is a full size 6 shot revolver.

I saw one of the new SP101's in Gary's yesterday. It caught my attention, but I did not notice the price.

When I buy a firearm, I look for personal tastes and price. I cannot believe what the prices are now. My last purchase was a S&W Model 28 .357 w/6" barrel. It is 98% and manufactured in 1970. I paid $325 for it a Bucheimer holster and a box of .357 ammo. MSP for the Ruger revolver is well over $600.00. If I look and lurk I can buy 2 handguns for their price. As a matter of fact, I bought the S&W Model 28 and a S&W Model 10 w/5" barrel for $525.00 and both of them are very serviceable and very accurate.

I lurk and look and find the deals. I seldom buy new firearms. The new versions of older model firearms are usually not made as well as the older examples. Aslo, don't even mention polymer frames and parts. They turn me off. The Colt 1911 has plastic parts and they still charge $800 for them. Unbelieveable.

It is the people that buy on impulse, the arms manufacturers are looking for, not me or people like me.

But somebody needs to keep the arms dealers in business or there won't be any parts.

I love the sp but it is smaller than id want a 4" bbl revo to be. I like the gp 100 and smith 586/ 686/ 66 for 4" and up. The way i see it if you are going with a 4" bbl you might as well go with a 6, 7, or 8 shot cylinder. The 5 shot sp IMO is best suited to 3" an under. Exception maybe that 22. I like it. It weighs more because it has more meat in the cylinder. Theres a 357 on sale on rugerforum. Think its 550 shipped?

For a man my size, the 4" SP101 may not be ideal. But, for my wife who is 4'9". it may be perfect.
