Post by Guest on Wed Dec 14, 2011 11:12 am

Picked up a Winchester 94 30-30 the other day,I can tell that it is a 60 something model not sure if its pre 63 or post 63. Not smart enough to upload pictures,or I'd show her off, does anyone out there know how determine the manufacture date?GETERDUN..

Look at the left side of the receiver. If there is a large screw head at the top left of the receiver (1/4"), it is a post 64. Look into the action while open, if the cartridge follower looks amooth and shiney it is a post 64.

Post 64 as in after. The pre 64 lever -bolt takdown cap screw is small and the post 64 is large. The pre 64 ctg follower is machined steel and slotted and is usually blued. The post 64 follower is made of smooth shiney sheet metal.

Thanks. I was just checking to see if you didn't have a typo...... (because I now know what to look for).

not smart enough to upload pics, without going through the moderator.winchester.com says 7 digit serial# =pre 63 8 digit =post64.Merry X-Mas..punched in the #'s it said 1975,there has got to be a story to this because every thing is machined.you can tell someone has been into it looking at the heads of the screws.oh well its a shooter and a keeper.

Another website that I like that has manufacture dates is www.oldguns.net . The manufacture date info is on the left side as you scroll down. They also have some nice collectible guns. The first thing I look at when I see a Winchester 94 is the serial number. Serial number 2,700,000 is generally accepted as the break point between pre-64 and the later 94's. This is the number that is stated in the Blue Book. One of my reference books says that they studied the Winchester factory "polishing shop" records and that the last 1963 gun that went through this shop was number 2,599,694.
