Best way to determine gun's value
I'm considering selling a few guns, but unsure what I should ask for them. Not looking to make a killing on their sale, just get a fair price. I have done some research on GunBroker and the like web site, but there can be such a huge price difference on the same gun in what appears to be the same condition.
Can anyone recommend some web sites and/or books with decent pricing guidelines?

current year book of gun values - course you need to be able to judge condition
lot will depend on the popularity of what you are selling as well
Good Luck

Thanks for the advice and yes, you are correct about judging gun condition, I try to judge conservatively.msredneck wrote:current year book of gun values - course you need to be able to judge condition

Re: Best way to determine gun's value
Books are good, but I have found that I get the best estimate of the 'current' market value by looking at the completed auctions/sales. For instance.... I have a Walther P22 brand new at 300.... the 'on book value' says it should have sold a long time ago. BUT... the current value apparently isn't there.
Lot of other factors play in now days....

I check all three major gun sites, gunbroker, auctionarms and guns american. Only look at sold auctions. The blue books can be a good start but they are only worth what people are willing to pay.

I even search the closed or sold auctions before buying or bidding on a gun.

The blue book of gun values is a National view....probably a little high for the Ms area
It's like I tell my wife about jewelry...It aint about what you paid...or what its worth....its what you can get...
and a lot of that depends on what happens to be the craze at the moment
Anyway...looking at sold auctions I would think to be pretty good...One man's "deal" is another's man's "walk away"....and everyone I run into always gets guns, cars etc etc cheaper than I do....funny how that is....anyway....I never worry about it all that much...Cause I don't buy guns to flip as a general rule....luv em too much
I could stand to sell a few though to fund some others...

Re: Best way to determine gun's value
I looked at a "Gun Bible" for prices ( as that was pulled on me at the gun show).. I can't say other makes and models but for Dan Wessons it was a complete JOKE. I have been buying and selling them for years; from Gunbroker ( most common) to gun shows. Yes , prices are all over the place, but the bible stated a SUPER LOW price. ( $269). My sons BB gun cost more than that! As said above follow GB for a while and watch the sold auctions. That should give you a good idea. Though I often watch auctions that get at least 1 bid.
Not slam pawn shops, but as common sellers they sometimes get some strange notions as to a guns (they own) value. They have no problem letting it hang out on GB for months and years, its just the cost of advertising to them.
