The sjc mount uses the trigger pin hole for the rear bolt and the front two have to be drilled and inserts put in to screw into. It's not fun, but doable.

Cool looking gun, can't wait to see it in action and who says you need to speed thousands and thousands and thousands of $$$ to get into Open.
I'm sure you will be a force to be reckoned with and Bud, Brandon, and Betty will appreciate the competition.

Thanks JD! Don't be fooled, Glock parts aren't el' cheapo if you know what I mean. You can still get in a lot cheaper than an S_I gun but not alot unless you already have some of the equipment or do like I did and watch the classifieds religiously trying to find deals. I also did all the work myself. If you can't drill and tap parts, don't feel comfortable drilling your own frame or some other general gunsmith work, you will be out some labor cost unless you have friend connections. The only parts I bought new were the scope, barrel, comp and springs. Everything else is used. Still working on getting the rest, I'm just very impatient when it comes to building guns. I want it now!!!!!

I don't know how big a force I will be while looking for the dot! LOL! It's gonna be a different animal for the first few months at least, but I'm excited about getting it up and running.

Since you have a new barrel I assume it's built for 9 major?

Jimmy You should come shoot.the ICORE match with Sunday. We have separate divisions for semi.
Re: Got my open gun built.....
why do open guns typically have the red dot mounted on the frame instead of a milled portion of the slide?

Coming from a guy that has never owned an open pistol,
I'm sure its because no one wants to add any mass to their slide. Limited/Open shooters spend a lot of money and time trying to get the slide mass down for faster cycling times, and adding an optic would be counter productive. Plus, if a gun is running reliably, adding mass to the slide could change that.
You are relying MUCCHH more on the slide/frame fit for accuracy when the optic is mounted to the frame though. So In that sense I can see where a slide mounted optic would benefit.

Re: Got my open gun built.....
The mass is part of it but other factors are you want the dot to stay still even after you pull the trigger. The slide is going to move so keep them apart. Plus the action of the slide is going to be pretty tough on electronics. Some of them are built to take it these days but that wasn't always the case.

Re: Got my open gun built.....
By the way, good looking gun Jimmy. I like the idea of going with something "out of the norm" like a Glock Open gun. No reason why it wouldn't be competitive and it's got to be fun to be a little different anyway. I do have a bunch of technical questions now though.
I mean how does your wife get her towels so white like that? Does she wash only in cold water, was there bleach involved, what?
