IIRC you will need a hydraulic press. Back when I was an HK addict I had an original German lug barrel put on my MP5 and Fleming had to do it because they were the only ones with a hydraulic press set up for HK work. FWIW there is a lot of flex in the sheet metal receiver and I am not sure the expense of putting a high grade barrel on it will give enough benefit for the cost. Just my 2 cents
My HK 91 and 93 rifles were super dependable but weren't the most accurate semis in the safe, they had acceptable military grade accuracy but I wouldn't want to shoot say, the combat precision match on the "D" target with one. They are definitely fun and cool rifles...

Definitely a reliable, rugged rifle, the G3 (HK91). When you consider that West German draftees were only in the Bundeswehr for less than 2 years(1950s - 1990s), they could put a G3 in their hands and have them hit "minute of man" as you say in a relatively short period of training time, this in a society where few had toy guns, let alone exposure to real firearms. By the end of the draft(last year) draftees only served about 1 yr, I don't know how they expected to turn them into real Soldaten in that brief time - but I digress.

Those 1 year draftees are more a pain in the A.. censored of any real soldier and it is hard to be out at AFG and other places with them!
Schwaben Arms has a G3 named SAR M41 Taktik-Rifle II with a special Lothar Walther Match barrel and they are good shooters.
They give a guarantee that the rifle has a 17mm-21mm 5-shot diameter at 100m.

And Sabre Defense makes them with a matchbarrel and a 15mm guarantee at 100m with S&B-Match ammo.

Don´t know how your exportation rules are? But i´m sur that it isn´t easy to export them from Germany. No friends at the UK? It is easier from there.

More criminals like the Yakuza. Hmm, don´t know if i´m right but isn´t it that way that a licensed gunsmith from Germany can export gun parts to special licensed gunsmith at the USA? I mean´t i´ve heard such a rumor.

the ammount of hurdles i was going to have to jump to get these was insane

Close to the insane things we have to do for gun parts from the USA. Before 9/11 it was as easy as buxing bread. If we needed parts we only had to tell it to a friend who makes ferry flights to the States and you had it 2 days later. I remember buying 1000th of Winchester 148 grs TC ammo for the 9mm. We had to pay $12 over here and he brought them for $ 6-7! Yeah, the old times!

Beladran, if you know someone going to Germany, they could purchase a barrel and bring it back...Ulrich are barrels restricted items now? I know at one time they weren't, I brought back parts in the past...but that was before 2001.

Phillip the barrel is now a main part of a gun and classified to the gun law. We need a permission to buy them. What i don´t know for our different laws is, if the US Army has other possibilties to purchase them at Germany. What i know is that a good friend who is a gunsmith can sell gunparts abroad.
