Laser Genetics Designators/Lights - alternative night vision - turned in to Group Buy

Post by MrClean on Sat Dec 17, 2011 12:38 pm

Got some Christmas money burning a hole in my pocket.... thinking about one of the Laser Genetics ND3's for my rifle. That, coupled with the suppressor.... would be fun shooting at night on hogs and yotes. Have watched the videos online but would like to hear from a REAL user. Anyone?.....

REVISED: This quickly turned into an order in progress. I have links below and prices on these neat contraptions. Going to order Monday afternoon, Tuesday morning at the latest. So if anyone would like.... just let me know.

They make some cool stuff, not cheap, but wicked cool. I have no need for one, but now that I've seen them I want one.....damn you for bring these to my attention.

On a side note, what is a decent caliber to hunt hogs, would a .22LR work?

If using rimfire I would just take headshots. Jamie took one a while back using a 17HMR. Didn't hardly move from what he said. Opinion varies greatly on this. I'm sure we will see a whirlwind of responses. I've had folks say the .223 isn't near enough, but it seems to work just fine from what I've seen.

I watched a buddy shoot a hog in the forehead with a .223 at about 75 yards. The hog went down kicking and screaming, dug out a circular pattern in the dirt and leaves for about 20 seconds, then got up and ran off. I'd go with at least .30 caliber if that was an option.

I should have been clear that the only ones I have seen taken with a rimfire (22, 22mag, 17) were shots just behind the ear.... not actually a head shot I guess. Smile Kind of a high neck shot? haha If I were on the ground and close in.... I would definitely opt for a big bore round!!!

I would like to launch a LAWS rocket in the middle of the sounder!!

Ok..... so think I am going to pull the trigger on one of these. If anyone else wants to order one and we can get four ordered they'll be 220 each. Any takers? JD?... evil grin

Okay, here are prices and links for LG stuff. Haven't found a link to their scope yet but will keep looking. For 35.00 more it seems a no brainer even if you end up putting it on a little rimfire rifle or something. They also have the mount for a 30mm scope tube if you need that instead of the 1" mount. It is 40.00.

Link to ND3 - $220.00

Link to ND3 SZ - 285.00

Link to ND5 - $270.00

Link to ND3x40 - $330.00

They also have a package deal that has the ND3 and a Laser Genetics Scope together for $255.00 !!

ND3S RIFLE SCOPE SPECIFICATIONS:

Magnification: 3.5-10x50
Fully Multi-Coated Optical Lens System
Eye Relief: 4"
Fast Focus
Parallax Setting: 100 Yds.
Field of View: @ 100 Yds.: 36-12ft.

I am just tired of trying to find someone local that has used one. Smile I'm not real patient when it comes to new toys. drool Specs, videos and etc can be found on their site. Any of those links up there will take ya there. I probably should change it to where it's more obvious those were links, huh?

I like what I saw but can the hunted become the hunter with you giving him a guided path back to you?

Ha! Well, I certainly wouldn't use it for any 2 legged hunting. I saw a video that was explaining the green light. Something about the light spectrum that our human eyes see versus the animals' eyes..... eyes made more for day versus those made for night. Animals didn't quite see the qreen much at all supposedly, but we see it nice and bright.

You aren't planning any covert operations, are you Sid???

Can't ever tell. Some of the wife's family may call to say they're coming to stay a couple weeks and then call to say they had a couple tire "blowouts" and won't be able to make the trip.

Have they got the battery issue fixed On these. I heard if its colder than 40 degrees or so the battery lasts no time. It was some thing they supposedly changed and fixed fhe issue. If so can i use A cred card? Maybe up for one if i can

I know they mention that if you plan to use the light predominately in sub 40 degree temps you should buy the Sub Zero version. Living down here I don't particular see the need for the Sub Zero version.

I'll be there in the morning to drop off a couple pistols I worked on. Then probably back after early Church service to visit maybe. Yep.... if it's below 40, I will probably not be out shooting. lol But the Sub Zero is suppose to take care of that. Looks like the SZ version adds 65 bucks to the price!!
