I took Oscar Irvin's Enhanced Permit Class Today: Review

Post by BigMikeFromOlemiss on Sat Dec 17, 2011 6:55 pm

Me and a friend went to Southaven today for Oscar's class. I would recommend any of you that still need the training in his area to give Oscar a call. Oscar is an 18 year investigator with the Memphis PD, NRA LEO Certified Instructor, and NRA Pistol and Shotgun Certified. Beyond that...he is a pretty cool dude. He is real personable and kind of easy going.

The class itself: I thought the class was very much comparable to the other introductory courses I have taken. I cannot say I learned much in the class and if you have had other training, you probably will not learn much either. That is not to take a jab at Oscar's teaching ability. He did really well. But if you are new to firearms or handguns or you want your wife to go through an introductory class, I think this would be a good one. After meeting Oscar I am sure he will answer any question you may have if there is something specific you are wanting to work on with your marksmanship.

The one thing that did set the class apart from the other classes I have taken is a heathy discussion of the carry laws and deadly force laws of the State of MS. All the other classes I have taken have been in TN, so this is the first MS specific class I have taken.

Anyway, I wanted to just let you guys know that Oscar is BMA....(Big Mike Approved)! If you have any questions please PM me.

Even that is not necessary if one is a member of msgunowers and has ever glanced at the "law" forum. lol.

MS Redneck, At the Southwest Gun Club in McComb, we spend a lot more time on the law than 10 minutes . We also show techniques for loading handguns one handed, clearing malfunctions and using the handgun in self defense. We use te Personal Protection in the Home Class and it takes 11-12 hours in a 2 day weekend. (Friday and Saturday)

Hope to have you try our class in February, since you are a new member.
