PHOTO-REALISTIC IMAGE TARGETS – PRIT’s
12/19/11
Before I get started let me make a correction. I’ve been using the term, “Photo-Realistic Silhouettes”. That’s inaccurate as anybody can see. What we’re dealing with here is a Photo-Realistic Image or a Photo-Realistic Image Target - let’s just shorten that to the acronym, PRIT. So hence forward I’ll be writing about PRIT’s.
Let’s get on with today’s discussion and I’ll explain at the end why I’m taking up your time, and mine, with this.
If I’m not mistaken, I first started writing about PRIT’s about a year and a half ago (7/25/10) in the posting titled “Home, Home On The Range - New Silhouettes” (you can read this at: http://www.msgunowners.com/t5118p20-home-home-on-the-range).
I built further on the PRIT subject last April in the posting, “More – Photo-Realistic Silhouettes” in which I quoted from one source what I thought was a very relevant observation - “With...more realistic targets, shooters are forced to focus on placing their rounds center of mass” (you can read that 4/28/11 posting at:
http://www.msgunowners.com/t5118p20-home-home-on-the-range).
Then this past July I introduced Poke Salad Annie as a new addition to my PRIT array in a 7/15/11 posting, “They're In The Hallway – Revisited” (you can read that posting at:
http://www.msgunowners.com/t5118p80-home-home-on-the-range).
In addition you’ll find these PRIT’s in a number of other postings I’ve made to these Handgun Forums.
That’s the background. What I would like to add to the discussion today is this...
The other day I read an article, “Visualization”, by Tom Givens in the Nov/Dec, 2011, issue of Concealed Carry Magazine, the publication of the USCCA. You may be able to download that publication and article by going to:
https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/concealed-carry-magazine/issue-archive/
(unfortunately, it may be membership-sensitive). The article is on page 54.
Givens writes, in part, “One last area to address is that of targets used in practice. Beware of doing all of your shooting practice on bull's-eye targets or only vaguely humanoid targets that look more like a milk bottle than an attacker. Do some of your work on targets that look like a real, live, armed, threatening human being. Your subconscious needs to be accustomed to seeing your sights superimposed on such an image...”
The only reason that I’m taking the time (both yours and mine) to rehash all this stuff is that I believe Givens’ comment underscores the value of PRIT’s and is of importance especially to CCW permitees.

Ed you always have insightful and informative posts, where do you get the prits? I have seen zombie bleeding targets but they are small compared to a real human. I'd really ;ike to shoot some manequins or something like that
