Legal Immigration

Post by Doug Bowser on Mon Dec 19, 2011 10:39 pm

I am amazed at the Obama Administration bragging about 300,000 new jobs, when we are still allowing 1,000,000 people per year to legally immigrate into our Country. My Father's Family immgirated to this Country in 1738. My Mother's Family in 1888.

From the 1870's until the early 1900's we opened the floodgates of Europe. We did not allow the large European immigration for benevolent reasons. During our Civil War, we had nearly 700,000 young men killed. If the same percentage of the population were killed during WW2 as were killed in the Civil War, we would have had nearly 3 million men killed. You can add to this figure 200,000 Civil War disabled veterans that could not work.

The blood ran thick in the battlefields and it left a void in the population that had to be filled. There was not enough labor, especially in the Northeastern States, to fuel the Industrial Revolution. We needed miners, factory workers, railroad workers and men to build our growing Cities. We imported the Labor in the Mass Immigration.

Our Country has closed most of it's manufacturing base and many jobs have been lost forever. The need for immigration has ended. When they brag about 300,000 jobs being created in the first 6 months of 2011, they import 1,000,000 more people looking for jobs. It is insane. The only reason for legal immigration in the present economy is, aquiring people that are skilled far beyond the abilities of the common worker. Such as engineers, scientists and medical personnel.

I am a product of legal immigrants and proud of my background, but I think we need to cater to the needs of our own Citizens before we take on any additional people through legal immigration.

As someone on the job hunt, I couldn't possibly agree with you more mr Doug.

My family has been here since before the Revolution. This was an empty country then but now we are overloaded. Time to take down the welcome sign.

I pray that you and all of our Citizens find the work they need, soon.

Thank you for the thoughts. Luckily I'm still in a better time in life than most, since I'm still living at home and have no debt. But I'm not one to sit around and be bored if I can avoid it, so being home all the time that I'm not out pounding the pavement looking for something permanent is killing me(ammo money will run out quick if I'm not careful)

@sand_man, I had a instructor at Homes CC who always said "smoke up! We're overpopulated anyway!" Pretty callous but appropriate way of looking at the world in general, not just here in the US.
