RO class January 21-22 in Thibodaux, LA
I just got word that there is an RO class scheduled for January 21-22 at Southern Shooting Center in Thibodaux, LA.
The LA Section is picking up the fees for LA Section members, for all others the fee is $40. (Note that unlike MS, all you have to do is be a member of a LA club to be a LA Section member. I won a LA Section championship a few years ago due to this rule.)
The class will be held Saturday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sunday from 8:00 am to Noon. On Saturday you will need a USPSA rule book, pen, USPSA member card, and notebook. On Sunday you will need your gun, gear, and a minimum of 12 rounds. (Not much shooting goes on; this is all about learning the rules).
I don't actually know who the contact person would be, but this would be a good start:
Gary and/or Barbara Thibodaux
Thibodaux, LA 70301-5905
Phone: (985) 446-0093
Alt Phone: (985) 438-9986
Email: gatbullets@charter.net
Web address: http://www.lagator.org

LOL, now you just need to work on a softer, sweeter voice and a Donna Reed outfit.Golfer wrote:Photoguy - I would like to do it also. May help me in being a 'Squad Mom'' also !!

Seriously though, maybe we can get a few more folks and road trip down to cut expenses?
On a side note I was about ready to drop the "photo guy" part of my name as I have not shot in sometime, but a recent contact from a lovely Jackson model may change that.

Re: RO class January 21-22 in Thibodaux, LA
I just went to USPSA.org to order a rule book, which is $3.00 and the cheapest shipping option they have is $6.95, now explain that one to me.
I wonder if having a copy of the PDF on my iPhone counts as having a copy of the rules for the class. I don't mind buying the book, but paying twice the cost of the actual item I want in shipping cost is just dumb. Maybe a group buy would bring shipping costs down, also see other companies sell the book, like Dawson Precision

Want to borrow a well used one? You are welcome to mine. Heck, I should have more than one. We should talk photo-shop (not the software, photography in general). My wife and I have an interest, took a couple basic classes, and have been slowly amassing decent quality gear.

Golfer said he got one when he joined, if that is the case I should have one laying around.DBChaffin wrote:Want to borrow a well used one? You are welcome to mine. Heck, I should have more than one.
Be happy to talk "photo-shop" with you, it has been a hobby of mine since I was a kid in elementary school and a career for several years.DBChaffin wrote:We should talk photo-shop (not the software, photography in general). Might get into some video work as I have an itch to build a knock off of the Steadicam Merlin. Figured it would be cool to video some of the Team Magnolia matches. Speaking of which, know of anyone with a metal working shop?

So you're saying my GoPro isn't good enough? Ha. Technically my brother and father-in-law both have metal working shops (brother is a welder and f-i-l manages a machine shop), but both are swamped and I don't know that I could get you a deal. The latter could probably do the work though, but a welder isn't probably what you were looking for, anyway.

The GoPro is a great camera, but would be even better if mounted on a steadicam type rig, now mind you the steadicam rig would not be something the shooter would carry, unless it was part of the stage description....hmmm, an idea for a stage, gun loaded and holstered, steadicam in weak hand....DBChaffin wrote:So you're saying my GoPro isn't good enough? Not looking for a deal so much as I don't have the tools to bend two short aluminum tubes and drill a hole in the ram on my arbor press, yep, trying my hand at diy holsters and mag pouches in kydex. I'll ask the folks at the match, maybe someone there can help me out.
Happy Holidays to you, your wife and family.

Interesting idea for a stage. I respect DIY attempts and stuff. I made my first "race" holster in 2000 and used it for a few months. Good luck, and Happy Holidays to you and your family as well.

Re: RO class January 21-22 in Thibodaux, LA
FYI, it has been my experience that most of the time the materials provided by USPSA for the RO classes include current edition rule books, plastic overlay cards, and swanky USPSA pens.
Bringing your own with you is helpful because it cuts costs for USPSA because they'll take back any unused materials but I wouldn't scramble too hard to find one if you don't have one handy. Certainly don't let it impact your decision to enroll. These are GREAT classes.

Thanks John for the info, I figured the Rule Book PDF on my iPhone or iPad would be just as good if not better then a printed copy, for one thing I can do searches. I'm planning to attend this class, only fair I give back something to a sport I've fallen in love with, plus a knowledgable competitor is better prepared.JohnHeiter wrote:FYI, it has been my experience that most of the time the materials provided by USPSA for the RO classes include current edition rule books, plastic overlay cards, and swanky USPSA pens.

Hi Guys,
I heard this class was filling up fast so I confirmed it with Gary. Because of the tremendous response, it's pretty obvious we need more Level I classes so I'm working with USPSA to try to get one scheduled in Jackson for late February or Early March. Sorry I can't provide more details yet but I hope to have them within the week.

I've been an RO for a little over 2 years and would definiatly recommend to anyone that shoots. Even if you don't want to be a RO at the matches, it will bring things to light that you never heard or thought of and make you a better shooter. You will look at things in a whole new perspective. Kinda like beer goggles! LOL! J/K! Speakin of beer goggles, I'll probly be wearin' some Sat. night so my new open gun is gonna be real loud Sunday!!!
