Swedish Mausers
Some Swedish Mausers model of 1896

From left to right: 1896 mfg 1901, 1896B mfg. 1902, 1896 mfg 1919 and SA marked, 1896B/38(modified to 1938 configuration. All were mfg. by the Carl Gustafs Stads Gevärfaktori.
The 1896 from 1901, a match winner, side view:

A view of the 1919 with its SA marking. This stands for acceptance by the Finnish army during the Winter War against the Soviet Union:

Comparison of the rear sight on the M1896 vs the 1896B/38, 3rd and 4th rifles:

The Swedes never officially used the 1896/38 designation, but it has become the standard designation by collectors to indicate a full-sized 1896 cut down to the 1938 model specifications. Here you can see the difference in length:

Now some ammunition. Starting upper left and moving clockwise:
box of "laddramar" or stipper/loading clips, "Skarpa Patroner m1941, prickskytte" ("live cartridges, projectile model 1941, sharpshooter"), "Spärljusprojektil m1941" ("tracer projectile model 1941"), and live cartridges on the loading clip:

The Swedes washed the brass with water prior to loading and didn't polish it, so often new boxes of cartridges will appear to be 'rusted' or corroded, like these. They shoot fine. I have won 3 state championships and several matches with these cartridges. Here are the same boxes open view:

here is a case of "Kammerpatrone", indoor gallery cartridges used for training at 25m. They are accurate out to that distance, if there is no wind, just as loud as regular catridges, but with no recoil:

A comparison of the "live" cartridge to the "gallery" cartridge:

Some accessories: a "hylsfangare", a cartridge case catcher:
And here it is mounted on the 1896:

A nice sling w/ triple crown stamp, indicating it was surplussed to the Swedish Sport Shooters' Association:

And night sights. The luminescent paint (radioactive?) no longer glows, but cool nevertheless:

Finally bayonets with a "frog":

Wonder where you got the practice rounds? It was the Junger's Christmas present last year. Can you remember 75-90 1896 rifles at the shop? They were truly beautiful, as are yours.

Very nice. Thanks for taking the time to share.
As to the cartridges, that's one heck of a Spitzer bullet. What weight are they?

Thanks. The spitzer bullet is 139gr, muzzle velocity 2600 fps from the M1896 rifle with a 29.1" barrel.

Yup, and out of the 1400 rd case there are 'only' about 1,000 in that one...der Junge makes good use of those for practice. I will try to find those photos of Great Southern Arms & scan them for posting here.Doug Bowser wrote:Wonder where you got the practice rounds? It was the Junger's Christmas present last year. The crowns on the sling mean that the Swedish Army's sling was surplused to a Swedish Civilian organization. Such as Swedish Shooter's Union and Frivillia Skeeterforelsen (SP) Free Shooters Organization. Their shooting is done at 300 meters in 3 positions slowfire. They use the 300 meter International big bore target. A 4.5" 10 ring at 300 meters.
