Sporterized 1903 stock question
Can a stock be suitably repaired that is cracked at the wrist? This one is on both sides at the rear of the action about where the bolt handle cut out is located.
If not then is the boyds stock a good replacement?

I just stopped by surplus city and was told they wouldnt feel comfortable tackling a repair job. Dont blame em for that. Dad and i will attempt it. If it dont work i'll buy the boyds. Worst case is i screw it up and have to buy one sooner. Best case is it holds and i get to save that money.

I had a Savage 110 in 7 mag that had a split right behind the bolt that no-one would touch, so I tried to drill and fill with epoxy to no avail. Split just got bigger with each shot. I ended up having to replace the stock. Original Monte Carlo stock was actually beautiful wood, but I've been pleased with the restock.

It probably wasn't correctly bedded putting pressure on the rear screw.
I put mine in a bell & carlson carbalite stock and haven't looked back. The B&C adds height at the comb (compared to military) for good scope and eye alignment.

Hmm. May look into that. Had just hoped to stay with wood if possible

I love my steel and wood 03's and M1's, but for a hunting rifle I just can't see any positive, other than aesthetics. Synthetics don't twist and warp with temperature and humidity swings and are practically indestructible.
If I were dead set on wood I'd get a reproduction 1903 C stock, chop off and round the forend, and seal the wood with polyurethane. The CMP sells them as a set with a handguard for 164 or Fulton armory will sell you one w/o the guard for 129.
From Boyds, 03 stocks fit poorly. The stocks from Fulton, CMP, and Dupage Trading stocks are Boyds but they are drop in.
I've got a friend that has been buying sporter 03A3's and turning them into vintage snipers, he may have a sporter takeoff stock laying around.

Got the stock epoxied and pinned. Dad did it with brass screws and an epoxy he uses when working on knife handles. We'll see how it holds in a few days when i shoot it.

This is after we trimmed the "pins"

Should work fine, and much cheaper than the pin kit brownells sells.

Re: Sporterized 1903 stock question
There is a good chance it broke there from recoil hammering the rear triggerguard screw into the stock based on what looks like an oblong hole in the stock. Is there evidence of impact on the rear of the hole? All the recoil should be taken up by the front lug, the rear screw just floats. Study these links, you may want to do the same or at least bed the front.
