AR accesories

Post by spmwheels on Tue Dec 27, 2011 5:56 am

Ok folks I finally got my first AR now I need help from those of you who are veteran ar owners. Where do you get your accessories? I got an S&W M&P sport for Christmas and I'm interested in changing out the fore-grip to one that has more space for accessories such as a rail for a flashlight and I'm also going to add either a red dot or some other type of sight but i need suggestions. HELP!!!

http://www.brownells.com/

Not only parts on these, but also lots of information on AR's including maintenance and dissassembly videos.

In the gun tech section on Brownell's, they have a complete online video series on how to build a complete AR. Very informative stuff.

In addition to the above,
Midwayusa
Palmetto State Armory
Aim Surplus
DSG Arm
Primary Arms

The more inexpensive quad rails are easy to install, but can add weight. The Magpul MOE handguard is light. You can add rail sections to it for lights or other stuff.

My suggestion: keep it light. I think you'll see (if you haven't already) that folks are tiring (pun intended) of trying to hold all that weight up. Pick the minimum number of accessories you need and figure out how you want to mount them. Then purchase. You may find that a four sided tactical rails is unnecessary.

all i plan on adding to it is a red dot a vertical grip a flash light holder and a sling and POSSIBLY a green dot laser just for the event that something happens to my red dot sight but the only things i know for a fact i want are the red dot, flashlight holder and vertical grip so not planning on adding much unneeded weight.

the sight i plan on getting is probably going to be the trij. reflex from basspro. I like the way it looks and think it would look really good on my gun plus i like how wide open it appears to be.

Look at the Magpul MOE fore-end. The rail sections you can get for it are polymer so that'll help keep weight down, and you can get the vertical grip(MVG I think) that bolts directly to it instead of taking up rail space. I don't have the rails yet but I plan on adding them and a pistol light to keep weight down. You can get a pistol light/laser combo and that would beat a huge laser hanging off the side.

I have the larger reflex on my DPMS and I LOVE it! There's a reason their serial #s all reference a biblical verse concerning the light of God. Take that thing out in the daylight and it's really like looking at the light of God

And I wouldn't depend on a laser as a backup to a red dot, flip up irons would be more reliable. But if you go with the trijicon, outside of the glass shattering, you won't have any failures to worry about

Brownells sells all the color options in various sets. It's a good bit cheaper than buying them individually. That's how I did mine, except the vertical grip I had to buy separate because none of the ODG packages included the grip, I think only the black kits did

For the price the MOE line is hard to beat! I love the buttstock and foregrip. The pistol grip and vertical grip are nice to be so big, even with my smaller hands, but the buttstock and foregrip really make the package. It's just such a versatile line. The shape of the foregrip reminds me of the old A1 triangular foregrip, which I've always liked

Look up GG&G, most of the stuff they sell is used by military. I like their rail system the best

It's the cowitness of the dot and irons. With the taller mount that it came with I couldn't do that, but once I got the lower ARMS throw lever mount it worked out perfectly.

I always get a chuckle when I see that pic reposted eventhough it's been around for years.

That damned thing must weigh 40 pounds!

Funny

What parts are included in the $488? Is that with a sight of some sort?

No that doesn't include my sight that will come later from basspro.the 488 includes the new forearm, vertical grip, pistol grip, 15 mags, mag loader, Medieval Muzzle Brake and cleaning kit. The sight will be an extra 570. And Miker don't worry I'm working on the pics I'll have them posted up as things progress. I'm going to take some later today of the basic rifle and then I will post more as I start adding gear.
