An idiot with a gun

Post by samzup2 on Tue 27 Dec 2011 - 21:13

Hi yall. Just now wound up here. Im a woman who does not know dippity squat about guns! But i ended up with 2 shot guns today when a friend traded me these for a riding lawn mower and kitchen appliances that I was trying to sell thinking . It is a 720 12-gauge auto Savage "humpback"

Can anybody tell me anything about this gun?

Welcome to the forum. The Savage 720 was a copy of the Browning Auto 5 shotgun.

hi-ya First let me welcome you to MSGO!!! hi-ya
The Savage 720 was made from 1930 to 1949. They are a licensed copy of the Browning A-5 but without the magazine cutoff. They are good reliable guns but there is not much collector interest in them. The value will only be as a shooter and will vary according to the condition and the choke. Many of them are full choke and these would have the least value.

It could be more valuable than one would think -- IF it once belonged to the US Army. The Army purchased around 14,000 of them and used them to train arial gunnery ... If it is marked US - or US Property .... give me a call!!

Na I don't see any. This one is a civilian gun. If it belonged to the army it would probably have all kinds of parts mixed in it. Thank you guys for the info. Do you know much about 16 gauge Remington? It has pretty wildlife carvings on it. I hate that I dont know about guns at all. I was raised up around mama cooking and washing dishes. Haha now I'm thinking...what in the world am I gonna do with guns? Never shot a shotgun before. I'm scared of em.

Check the barrel on the Rem and see if it has a model # on it .. maybe on the receiver ...

Could you post a few pictures?

I will tomorrow. The guy is suppose to bring it when he comes to pick up the frigerator. I don't know the model number yet, but its a 58 or a 68 year. It's a beautiful gun.

Tell the guy to give you a serial number. People like Cap't can tell what it's worth if he can see pic's. Good Luck and Welcome.

Thanks! I think this site is going to be fun. I actually got up the nerve to shoot a gun today. To my surprise for being my first try, I actually hit what I was aiming at. A police friend who was helping me said that I knew just enough about a gun to get somebody killed. LOL I don't want to do that! Ha

Don't like the kick back. I'd be better of with a little pistol or a tazor...or a water gun.

Start with a .22 rifle or .22 pistol. No kick, cheap ammo, and lots of fun.
