Gun Show Question

Post by g2072 on Wed 28 Dec 2011 - 23:17

Every gun show I go in there is always a table and sign that says no loaded weapons. Does that mean NO LOADED WEAPONS or is concealed carry with a permit OK.

I always took it to mean CC prohibited, but I've never actually asked anyone. It's an interesting question though, I hope someone can answer conclusively.

I'd ask them what they specifically mean, but my assumption is that it means if you are bringing a gun in to sell, it must be unloaded and checked as such at the table. If it means no Concealed Carry it should state that as such.

I have had them ask me if I had any guns conceled. When I had a table at some we were told NOT to have a loaded gun inside the building.

Not going to name any names because I don't want to get anyone in trouble if it happens they aren't supposed to be carrying but I know one of the dealers who use to be a regular at almost every show in Jackson. This particular dealer carried to every show I saw him in and I know this because I was looking for a gun for my ex M.I.L. and he pulled his carry gun out to show me as a suggestion for her. Now I have to say I did not check the weapon but being his personal ccw I assumed that it was loaded but I may be mistaken.

I went to Jackson gun show once a few years ago and security had a table set up at the front door. There was a sign that said that there were no loaded weapons allowed in the building and they were taking all of the firearms that were being brought into the building, locking the slide back or opening the cylinder of a revolver, and placing a plastic zip tie through the barrel. Whether they still do this or not today I have no idea. I can only assume they did that because they wanted NO loaded weapons at all inside the building.

As a dealer, we are usually told "no loaded weapons" personal or otherwise.
It really depends on the venue and/or promoter of the event, but as a general rule, we are not allowed to carry a loaded weapon.
