Searching all gunsmiths for a part

Post by granjack on Thu 29 Dec 2011 - 13:31

I need a bolt for a Remington 742 30-06. I know I'm probably dreaming, but I thought I'd try anyway. I hate to throw away a really nice rifle for lack of a part.

I've had prior experience with this. Bolts are unavailable for the 742 Remington. Gun parts will not have it and Remington will not provide one for you at any price. Make a paper weight or a boat anchor out of it. You could call Gun Parts to see if they are interested in it for parts.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

I've seen several of them with broken bolts. I've had no luck trying to find replacement bolts. I'm afraid you have a paper weight.

Don't know about that, but I traded the gun away, sold the one I traded for and bought my newest on just a couple weeks ago. Thanks for the post anyway, I appreciate you trying to help!

Is it the bolt or the extractor. The extractor was a circular type that fit inside the bolt face and is peened into place. Those are available.

I think it was both, but I have traded it away to somebody who works on them and got me something I can shoot.
