I find it really hard to believe that a person who is aware enough of firearms law to apply for and have a concealed carry permit in her home state would really be ignorant of the draconian gun laws in NY state, especially in New York City, (aka "Hell on earth for gunowners" ), and actually attempt to carry concealed in NYC????

Yeah. I saw this earlier. I'm in NYC or NJ once a month. No way would I try to carry up there.

As a leo I understand ignorance of the law is not an excuse, but how have we come to the point where we can't help people. I am sure it would have been a lot easier to pull her to the side and advise her of the law and then escort her to her vehicle where the weapon could be secured. After all she did approach him for assistance.

This is the same area where if you travel with a weapon and follow all of the TSA and airline regs you'll still get busted by the port authority or other LEO if you take possession of a weapon. Apparently there is no safe passage clause there. When I went through training to get my NYNJ Port badge, I asked about travellers who were lawfully travelling with firearms. The response was that if the "package" went from plane-to-plane, no problem. If you claimed it in baggage....busted.

In her car would still be a violation as I understand it.
Just another of many reasons to avoid New York City.
As Hank Williams, Jr.,sings, "You can send me to hell or New York City. It'd be about the same to me."

An article came out today about NY doing some "Gun Work". They (They being Bloomberg and his cohorts) are having Investigators answer ads on Firearms sales sites like Armslist and others and Craigslist (WHich doesnt allow gun sales) posing as illegal buyers to see if the seller will sell to them. Apparently they are having success. They say the worst violations are coming from Craigslist and they can buy any type of "illegal gun" illegally off the site. You can Google the story.

I am from NY State. She will serve no less than 2 years in jail for the possession of a non registered handgun and no permit. I visited my Sisters in Syracuse, NY in October. I did not carry any handguns. I carried a youth version of a Rossi .410/.22 two barreled set in a case. If I went to NYC it would have been a violation anyway. You have to have a permit to own any firearm in NYC.
I moved from that God awful socialist state in 1970 and I am proud of it.

+1. I would think that anyone who gets a permit would know that it is not automatically good in all states.

I don't have a permit but one caveat they should put in the permit info would be "hey dumb azz", check the laws in other states. I know common sense but that ain't as common as it used to be.

I will probably get ripped for saying this but... New York's laws and regulations seem so Un-American to me. How do people consider NYC to be uber-patriotic or American? Or more so than the rest of the USA.
I realize the evil doers attacked us there...and we stood together and overcame....but evil doers also attacked us in Hawaii...and Hawaii isn't glorified as being the hub of Americanism.
Why is NYC painted as the epitome of what is America?

You won't get ripped by me. I wouldn't live in NY if you gave me my own block. Seems they don't have a clue what "infringed" means. Either that or they just don't believe in the Constitution. Look, either you have 2nd amendment rights or you don't. Seems in commie land you don't. Epitome of America. Not in my book. I believe that they are a shadow of what liberals want our country to become. I only hope I'm dead and gone before it comes to pass.

We need to start a petition to free her. She also needs to take her cause to the Supreme court to overturn unconstitutional laws against guns and gun owners. It is my firm belief that any law prohibiting any legal law abiding citizen of these United States from bearing arms is unconstitutional and should be overturned.

They may let her go but not before they convict her of a class 1 Felony and ruin her life. Her life as far as firearms are concerned is ruined as well as her right to vote, own property, etc.

Yall would both be surprised then......I only know a few people outside of this forum who have their FP, and not a one of them have any clue about 99% of the rules and regs of permits, let alone would they go through the trouble of looking up the laws in other states despite my best efforts

It always amazed me, the Northeast is where the Revolutionary War was started because the Government was coming to take the Citizen's firearms. I have figured it out. The Civil War killed a large percentage of young men in the North and South. The North was needing men to work the factories, as miners and construction workers for buildings and infrastructure. We opened the Country to Immigrants. Most of them came to the Northeast. They were used to the Government being non-benevolent. In 1913, when they passed the Sullivan Law on the carry of handguns, it seemed the normal thing to do. You must also understand, there were two President's assasinated in New York State and Mayor Gaynor of NYC was shot by a disgruntled city employee in 1912.
Since the immigrants (a large portion of the citizenry) never did own firearms in their own Country, they did not object to laws they thought would protect them.
The South on the other hand did not have the influx of foreigners and is still more like the pre-Civil War America, than the Northeast.
