My wife was watching the communist news network this morning an this lady came on with a bs sob story about how her son was sitting in church an a bullet fell through the roof an killed him.. I find it hard to believe a bullet in free fall has enough energy left to go through shingles,tar paper,3/4 ply wood, 6 inches of insulation, sheet rock, an still kill...

I'd have to agree, just watch Mythbusters.

Not possible from a simple fall out. Perhaps if it came from the side where it was still under power. Or maybe if someone was standing on the roof and fired one down below. Maybe I am just getting old, but I wish someone with $$$$ would sue the ever livin' crap outta these liberal media types when they print/air something that is blatantly false. I don't have enough info on this story, but in general... they should be held accountable and not just have to print a small retraction on the back page later. I hate them. Literally hate them for what they do.

I think it has just as much to do with stupidity as the liberal agenda. Anybody with a brain would realize that a bullet traveling at it's terminal velocity isn't enough to hurt anyone. You don't have to be a gun expert or a scientist to figure that one out.

I once heard the spokesman for JPD say that a bullet moves FASTER when it's falling from the air than when it leaves the gun. That's why people shouldn't fire their weapons into the air.

1. In order to sue them you have to show that YOU were harmed by their actions---and courts have held that news media have lots of special privileges when it comes to being sued.

2. I have suggested that the right wing start putting out total BS in a similar manner just to combat the crap the left puts out. Something like, "957,213 lives were saved in the US in 2011 by legal gun owners."

i hear in n.o. people die new years eve from dropping bullets. does sound a bit way out threw a roof. why waste good ammo shooting in the air?

I have a friend that is a maintenance manager at the Superdome. He says the bullets shot in the air bury themselves into the roof material and the have to spend $10,000 each year repairing the roof. There was a British tourist killed a few years back from a bullet fired in the air. Maybe there should be police squads that attack people that shoot that way.

The problem is, most of the bullets fired in NOLA are not at terminal velocity.

I'd speculate that a falling bullet wouldn't break 100mph. The speed is probably a lot less than that. You could grab that with a catchers mit. There are people who can't kill a deer with a bullet that's moving 3000 ft per second. It's hard for me to believe that a bullet moving slower than a fastball would be dangerous. It would certainly have a lot less energy transfer on impact than a fastball.

So with that logic applied, if falling bullets kill people then why don't 100mph fastballs blow catchers hands off?

That is an interesting read. May be it's not impossible but it's certainly improbable. I wish there were more research on this using different trjectories, bullet shapes, and bullet weights.

It's hard to believe that with so much misinformation about this that there wouldn't be some good research on the topic.
