Converting Rem 700 To Clip Style

Post by g2072 on Sat Dec 31, 2011 12:16 am

I may have asked this before but can't find it. I have a Rem 700 SPS Tactical in .308 caliber that has the three or four shot floorplate on it. I don't even know if it is the kind that drops down and has the spring in it. Is there a way to convert it to a clip style that won't break the bank. It has the Houge stock on it. What would be the best and most economical way to convert it. Anybody got any parts laying around and would be willing to walk me through the project.

You might look into the Kwik Klip conversions, but it isn't explicitly stated whether or not they'll work in an SPS stock, so you'd need to do some forum browsing or other research to check on that, maybe call Remington or Cabelas, I know they sell the kit. I've read some complaints about reliability from some users, but every other detachable mag bottom metal setup I've seen is pretty pricey, usually around or significantly over $300. Best of luck

AI has bottom metal, badger ordenance, stockys stocks has a kit and there are probably more. Look at about $400 for the kit and that is with one mag, AI mags are about $80 a piece.

Probably not worth the money. I looked in Midways gunsmith catalog and th better kit is near $400 and the spare mags are $90.

I looked at some of the kits. I'd really like to stay with all remington parts if possible. I guess I'll just keep my eyes out but it isn't looking good for the home team. I can't see spending 3-4 hundred converting a 600-650 dollar gun. I was just thinking I might be over looking something.

May get lucky and find a gun that someone is parting out or post a want to trade ad. Never know someone may have a clip gun that wants a non clip gun. Stranger things have happened.

OK, I'm looking at a remington kit for a short action remington 700. The guy who has it says you need a drop magazine stock. My SPS Tactical has the Hogue stock. This kit should work for my rifle shouldn't it. It may require a little inletting or fitting but should work ok. Please correct me if I'm wrong before I buy something that won' t work.
