Looking to buy a Savage Axis

Post by bwechols on Sat Dec 31, 2011 10:13 pm

I'm looking to get a rifle for deer hunting. I don't hunt a bunch, but I enjoy going occasionally. I would definitely go more if I had a rifle so that I didn't have to borrow one to hunt with. After reading reviews here and other places on the 'net, I was thinking the Axis would be a good gun for me, probably in .308. While looking around the 'net, I found THIS GUN, but I haven't had any luck finding out what the difference is between it and the Axis (besides the price). Can anyone clue me in here? Thanks.

DEFINITELY go with the Savage 11! Probably nothing wrong with the Axis, but you will get more out of the 11 in terms of resale.

If you are concerned with resale - I never am...especially in a hard use hunting gun...you'll never get your money back on one....lets just face it.

But....If you want a nice cheap killing machine..you can just leave in the truck....Axis is just fine

Like mine a lot...Mine of course has had its trigger replaced by a Rifle basix....If you can afford to jump up in price then look at some higher priced savages...

The Marlin XL 7's are pretty sweet on the cheap as well. Have been pleased with both

I just picked up my Marlin ZS7VH. So far everything but the stock looks very well made and solid.
I will post results when I get some range time.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll take a look at the Marlins. I'm just not looking to spend $600-$800 on a rifle that I really won't use a tremendous amount.
